Ridge Racer 6: Why No Hype? Don't Sleep On This Incredible Game!

I peruse the forums and there is a disturbing lack of hype for this game! I think this stems from the lack of information going around and serious competition from PGR3. Let me attempt to sell you on the game by gathering everything we know into this one thread in the hopes that you'll pick it up come launch day in a couple weeks ;)

What is known so far:

  • Steering Wheel Support
  • Online Multiplayer (1-10 players) A Ridge Racer FIRST! :!:
  • Downloadable Content
  • Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Xbox 360 EXCLUSIVE
  • World Xplorer mode - over 230 race events
  • 130 Cars - broken into 4 classes
  • 8 available modes to unlock(to be revealed)
  • Worldwide Online Leaderboard + Ghost Car downloads
  • Split-screen multiplayer
  • 30 Different Tracks
  • 14 cars in a race
  • 60 Frames Per Second :!:

This looks to be the absolute pinnacle game of the series! If you've liked any previous Ridge Racer this game should be a no-brainer. Here's a few screenshots to get you pumped up :p

These images are less than 800x600 and should by fine according to the FAQ: http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22121

I'll post a less number this time and a link to the rest:

Many reasons:

- PGR3 stealing the scene
- RRV - remember how that turned out??
- PGR3
- PGR3

Personally, i've always loved the RR series and i'm sure i'd have more fun with that than with PGR3, but that's just me. It seems PGR3 appeals to the Xbox audience much more than a very arcadey japanese racer which always belonged to the Playstation audience and used to be one of the symbols of the Playstation brand together with Tekken.

I mean, I'll be getting PGR3 aswell. But mainly for the graphics, Ridge Racer will be all about the gameplay though! First time being online and 60fps! I just hope a decent amount of people purchase the game so future games will come out on the system.

The game will sell alright. Once (IF) it gets the green light for PS3 - or even a downgraded PS2 version, wouldn't surprise me.
But obviously, on X360 it will always be looked over, with PGR3 there.

The RR series has gone down lately because so many racers have been made, from the Burnout series (direct competition for arcade racers, and a much better game than RR), to the GT series, to many other racers which are just Good(TM).

I have to admit the early builds looked a bit dull, but it looks very good now.

BTW: do you have a link for the force feedback wheel bit?

I wasn't even aware there was one for the X360...

No need to hype it for me. The only PS2 launch game I really liked (And that I didn't consider as being realtime crap), was RRV. And I wasn't a RR fan before hand (I'm more a Sega Racers fan...). Therefore RRVI is already on my must-buy list.

Speaking of Racing games that I like, does any of you guys who follows the rumors, but is a new (Dice Developed) Rallisport in the works?

Unfortunately BlimBlim(of Xboxyde fame) said another game in the series would never happen.

Hmmm, I may have misinterpreted... I saw steering wheel support or something on Teamxbox.com and automatically assumed force feedback, I'll edit my post... because I'm not really sure if it's force feedback or not :???:

To quote Vader: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Most impression I read, this thing has the same drift handling like PSP version. I wished they expanded more on RRV handling. Still though with PGR3 being confirmed being 30fps by the dev, this might be the only racing game I can play. Though RR series is not really games that I enjoyed in its various incarnations, but Sega isn't making anymore Daytona or GT, so I have to move on too :)

The only thing it has in common with the PSP version are the boosts. Not the on-rails drifting of the PSP version from what I understand.... That is a falacy going around.

Wait, what? Where? When?

It has been confirmed to be 30fps?

So, you too, heh?

Good news, if true.

I wish somebody would make a game like the old fun cross country non-looping racing type roads. I'm talking lots of different nonstop roads like in Outrun or Cruisin USA. Something like a Cannon Ball Run. RR and it's same looping tracks and fake cars get pretty boring. There's not much *value* in RR compared to games like PG3.

I'm more looking forward to the next Tokyo Highway Battle game.

Yep, its the bad news I woke up to :( I wish MS would let them optimised the game a little longer.

Yeah, and I used to dislike RR. Still am, but gotta give it another try.

Well lets hope, but my friend who is RR fan said otherwise in regard to handling.

I agree!! I remember a Need for Speed game (not sure which one but it was old, running great on my Voodoo1) where i'm not sure if the track was "open", but if it was, it sure as hell was long enough to feel like it was. You'd finish the race without going through the same bloody part twice. Loved it.
Not sure if Need for Speed games are still like that, haven't played any since that one i just mentioned.
Looping over and over again around the same bloody track is so BORING.
