Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk retire from BioWare

This is old news already but I'm suprised there isn't a discussion about it here. I've been playing BioWare games since the original Baldur's Gate and they have always been at the core of the kind of games I like. I've been utterly captivated even by the very actiony "RPG" Mass Effect series. Just shows how far good writing, art and music gets you. I also found it peculiar that two doctors founded a succesful game company. I eventually ended up graduating from medical school myself.

I guess this was a long time coming since they sold the company to EA, but still to me it marks the end of an era. Though I do have a hard time believing both guys will stay out of game business for long.

Any thoughts?

I have a feeling they weren't all that involved in the latest games from Bioware, as they are nothing like the games Bioware used to release.

It'll be interesting to see if Bioware manages to recover from the mess it made of DA2. And I hated ME2 and didn't even bother with ME3 after watching a friend play it. Loved ME1 though, and still replay it from time to time. Couldn't be arsed to touch ME2 again.

They've been a dead company to me for a while now. I wonder if Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk are sad by how far Bioware has fallen...

I liked ME2 the first time through but I admit it is sort of like Gears of War. ME3 has some changes but is mostly just more of that combined with a weak plot. ME1 was best because it was first but it has its own design problems.

I'm not really a fantasy RPG fan so Bioware starts with KOTOR for me. A decent game but that depends on how much you want to immerse yourself in Star Wars lore.

Their blogs sound like they are just burned out. I have no doubt that they haven't been making the games they'd prefer to make but that's not necessarily a reason to split. It will be interesting to see what EA does now. Maybe in the future Bioware will be the name for some EA service as Origin became.

Let's see if they can pull themselves out of the Dragon Age/Star Wars mmo funk they are in at the moment. It is possible to create good games under the EA umbrella, but maybe you have to be in Sweden to do it or something.

Yeah the plot in ME games isn't exactly high prose. But the characters more than make up for it.
