Phantom.. mm, appropriate name if you ask me ;)

Infinium Labs today announced the launch of a new Web site for its revolutionary on-demand console system, the Phantom. The new, feature-rich site demonstrates Infinium Labs' commitment to technology and offers consumers a preview of what lies in store when the Phantom is unleashed in 2004. The Web site can be found at www.infiniumlabs.com.

In addition to the aesthetic values, the new web site provides potential partners with the opportunity to learn more about the partner programs that Infinium Labs is offering. Additionally, they can register their information in order to speak with a channel manager about specific details.

"We've built a Web site that is as sleek and innovative as the Phantom itself," said Tim Roberts, CEO and Founder of Infinium Labs. "Our feedback from broadband, content, and hardware/software partners has been so overwhelming; we wanted to provide more information about partnership opportunities yet make it as simple and clear-cut as possible."

The Phantom is a next generation game console that supports games on demand, game rentals, game demos, seamless upgrades and patch management. At launch, the Phantom will be the fastest console on the market and will include a broad selection of pre-loaded games, games on-demand and game rentals.

The game console is an "always on broadband device" which will allow gamers a wealth of options, from wireless connectivity to massive multiplayer capability to allowing gamers to demo games before purchasing or subscribing.

Infinium Labs is expected to reveal the Phantom to the public for the first time in the summer of 2003.

1. Something apparently seen, heard, or sensed, but having no physical reality; a ghost or an apparition.
2. Something elusive or delusive.

I would recommend a Victoria Cross for them if they dare to launch it...

Hey, they already have, I´m even playing UT2k3 with it...oops, sorry, I confused it with my PC. ;)

On a more serious note:

It seems as if this is just a PC. If that's the case, are they just using regular PC components? And if that's the case, what are the chances of just cannibalizing the parts? Moreover, how is it even physically possible for them to make a profit on this, when they won't be getting royalties for the vast majority of software they're using?

Mmm, I know I know!!... they don't need money, they will use Phantom Money (TM) - (a bit like the Stock Market). ;)
