It's an interesting one. The PC (as in 'IBM PC compatible') has been an enduring collection of recognised minimum specifications for over four decades. Some would argue that modern PCs aren't compatible with the original specification and they would be right, but over the course it's been more iteratively compatible with earlier hardware and software with very occasional incompatibility breaks managed by software solutions to varying degrees - mostly thanks to Windows and Microsoft's effort to leave no code behind.

I can't think of any other platform with such an enduring identity.
