would have loved for Sean Astin to be nominated but bit late for that now :)

I guess the "powers that be" considered the LOTR trilogy as a whole big thing, therefore they waited until it actually ended to give them credit... It IS after all a one huge movie, cut in 3 parts. It was shot all at once but distributed along 3 years... So yeah, it can be seen a a big movie cut in 3 parts...

Kinda like Kill Bill (Although that is also called CASHING IN)

I waited to read this thread until I finished watching the show. God Im thankful i tivo'ed the two shows after the oscars as it ran way over.

One thing, I think that the academy needs to add a category for best ensemble cast. Which then LOTR would have won.

I know it's different, but does it have a "Best Casting" category? Just curious...

That's weird... I mean they have millions of categories...
"Best original socks in a Comedy movie"...
"Best adapted silicon breasts in Drama"...
Casting seems important. It is to me, at least...

I don't think it deserved to win best song, for that boring pop song that got tacked onto the end of the movie when the credits were rolling.

The "kiss at the end of the rainbow" was a much more deserving song, seeing as it was integral to the movie and most people who watched the movie actually saw it.
