NV30 only as tech preview Monday...

I know that most didn't expect more than a NV30 preview Monday, but here it is from anandtech anyway:

What to expect? On Monday alone you'll see a review of Intel's Granite Bay chipset and a roundup of the first three motherboards to use it, NVIDIA's NV30 (only in technology preview form) and Intel's new Xeon MP and Xeon DP parts.

Oh well, let's read that darn CineFX whitepaper once again... ;)

BTW: I'm looking forward to that Granite Bay review instead then.

/me states the obvious

A tech preview will not stop all the bickering

it will only escalate it, cause now speculation will run rampant concerning its performance :p

Anyone else here see that a "technology preview" at this point - 6 weeks from the end of the year - without any NV30's inhand as a real problem for nVidia? A paper launch at this point is pretty damning, if you ask me. This spells real trouble, guys.......

A paper launch is better than nothing... And the speculation will at least keep Nvidia in the news ;)

Well, hopefully there will be more to it than just more about the CineFX architecture. I want to see some anisotropic/FSAA info! But damn, it's not all that meaningful until the cards are actually in reviewers' hands for direct performance/image quality comparisons...

Martrox, obviously there will be NV30's at Comdex. The chip is done. The reference is done. I don't see the point of you posting several times a day in every graphics related thread about the horrors of Nvidia's position.

I'd be curious what the rhetoric here was like on Tuesday, if I didnt already know.

I think NV is hiding their downfall. Why no performance number ? They released the 51 billion FLOPS number, and make some stupid comparison with the number, what about the rest ?

Well. you guys won't see any perfomance numbers... trust me on this one...

Like we were supposed to trust you on the chip having 256-bit memory? ;)

*G*

I replied to the post. I didn't start it..... and what if nVidia doesn't give any performance info on those NV30's at Comdex....then what? So far, all we have here is vaporware. All the supposed facts on the NV30 have proven to be.....well, just what is proven at this moment? NOTHING! I do so hope we do really know something factual by the weeks end. But if we don't, then what, Username? I'll be picking up an NV30 when they are available, just so I can see for myself just what it can do..... just as I have with every new highend card for the last 4 years, cept Matrox.......

That's what Nvidia is hoping for. Only problem is that any intelligent person can see thru the smoke they've been puffing for the last quarter. They are in a very precarious position indeed.
My biggest hope is for them to have to release it at a super competitive price compared to the Radeon 9700, that way we can see those oh so lovely price wars(INTEL - AMD anyone?) us consumers love so much.

Or like it being out on shelves before the end of this year?
