Nvidia NV28 And NV18 First Review

Just got word from Crow @ Darkcrow.co.kr that they have the first review for Nvidia's new NV28 and NV18 graphics cards:
http://www.darkcrow.co.kr/newsdirectory/content.asp?idx=1246

Unfortunately, it seems that the review has been pulled off, probably because the NDA hasn't been lifted yet (25-26th is the annoucement date)

But a screenshot of GF4 Ti4200-8X has been leaked to the net:

And, another screenshot (GeForce 4 MX 440-8X this time :) )

Do I get to gloat now that they appear to be exactly as I've been saying they probably would be? :D ;)

I was actually quite suprised, but you were right after all so... :)

What's the difference...didn't alexsok claim to have his own inside sources? ;) Dave can gloat all he wants.

Did I ever say anything for certain about NV18 or NV28? I was suprised by the real deal myself!

Sorry Dave about the bandwidth wasting, if u want, I can remove them ;)

It's not Beyond3d's bandwidth you wasting as the images are on another server.

Nahh...don't yawn quite yet...I'm kinda expecting nVidia to also officially "unleash" the new detonators at the same time!!!

WOOHO....er..ummm.....on second thought....*yawn*.... ;)

Well, it seems to me that they will be the same drivers as leaked today (40.52).

Yes, but the Det 40.x's are all currently beta I believe. They might announce the first "officially supported" Detonator release! Woot! ;)

Well, I guess you're right there, as NV18 & NV28 annoucement will probably just not be enough for nVidia to impress anyone...

according to c't the NV18 and NV28 are only bugfixed versions of the old chips with AGP8x support.

Only the Ti4200 and the MX440 will be available with AGP8x (and maybe an MX420 later ). The Ti4400 and Ti4600 will not be "enhanced".

The Ti4200 will have no higher MHz, but due to the AGP8x label I expect that the cards will be more expensive then the old Ti4200 cards (new marketing -> higher prices).

The MX440 will have an core with 275MHz and 256MHz memory, so this card will have higher performance. c't managed to overclock their test-card to 351MHz core / 338MHz memory. So this card will be an really high performance DX7 card for overclockers (if all MX440 can be overclocked so much ). Otherwise the new MX440 will now be (roughly) as fast as the R9000 but lacks the DX8 features. So we will see how this turns out for Nvidia.

mboeller: Thx for the info m8, that sounds pretty intresting to say the least...

I was wondering myself about ti4600 (ti4400 ceized production, so no suprise there), but i thought that an agp 8x variant of ti4600 is a possibility...

I actually have no idea how nVidia are going to make the annoucement, they don't have much stuff to work with...

So, is the NV30 going to be earlier than I think, or did nVidia leave themself with a mind share surrendering lineup for an extended period? Or perhaps enough people will be dazzled by marketing into paying extra now for 8x AGP cards to use on their 4x AGP motherboards?

Is there some article showing a vast improvement that 8x AGP gives over 4x for these cards?

In any case, that GF4MX card sure does look pretty, maybe I should buy one...

No, I'm not blaming nVidia for launching these cards, I'm just astounded by the (apparently) poor lineup they're offering...I just couldn't credit that the GF4 is all they've managed to offer as an enhancement to the basice GF3 at this late date, and that they did indeed seem to have all their eggs in the nv30 basket. But perhaps it really will be launched much earlier than I think.

demalion: I agree with u there. That's the exact same reason why I can't understand how the annoucement will be organized. I mean, they don't have much stuff to work with and the official detonator launch will perhaps save their day...

It's not like nVidia planned it this way. When your flagship chip is late and your competition does better than you expected, you go through a spell where your lineup looks weak.

NV30 is late not because of any problems nVidia were having with the design, but because of the problems with 0.13 not being mature enough, which is the main and the only reason for the constant delays.
