noob buying gaming notebook

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse here...

Basically I'm trying to decide between dx9 or dx10 compatible laptops. I've narrowed it down to either Sager NP 9260 or Biohazard Outbreak.

They would both be equipped equally, except for video cards. Sager only offers a 7950 sli setup, as opposed to Biohazard who offers a geforce 8700 gt sli notebook. Is it worth the extra money? It is my understanding that Windows Vista does not support the sli setup. But the only way to get dx10 is by using Vista. Am I wrong?

Assuming money is not an issue, which would you choose, and what OS?

Appreciate the help.

I recently bought a new notebook myself. Not really for gaming (gaming notebooks are to big - 17" and eat so much battery their not really portable :p )

Anyways, the one i bought is a 1510 inspirion with the 8600GT card. From what i've read, the 8600GT and the 8700 is the same card, just factory overclocked.

Further, the 7950, going by benchmarks absolutely stumps the 8700GT and 8600GT. Atleast for DX9 gaming :)

But you might wanna have dx10 capabilities for the future.

Yeah, the 8700 moniker is a mobile thing, like the 7700. The 8700M GT is just a higher clocked 8600M GT though, whereas the 7700M represented an 80nm edition of the 7600M with the higher number of pixel shader units and ROPs of the 7600M GT.

Is it true that the 7950 trumps the 8700GT as far as FPS are concerned? If that's the case, I'll go with the Sager and upgrade latter when dx10 has been a little more established.

I'm not all that certain with the shaders and how much of a bottleneck they are these days, but the 7950GTX single-card already has near double the memory bandwidth pixel fillrate of the 8700M GT (all reference clocks).

What games do you play?

if the 8700m gt is just a higher clocked 8600gt it would have to be clocked around 70% faster to match the 7950 according to toms hardware the exceptions are oblivion + fsx where its a lot closer
this is at 1280 + 1600
fsx seems to be cpu limited as the 8800gtx is only 10% faster
