New way to fix the 3 red lights of death [X360]

Yeah I'm happy mine has been fine.
And the scary thing was I realised yesterday I have a samsung drive model, which means I've got a *really* old one.... (although it doesn't seem *that* loud to me, sure it's noisy but not crazy noisy)

iirc the towel trick is theorised to soften and reconnect pins on the gpu.. To do with that whole dodgy x-clamp theory.

The towel trick is actually quite old nowadays. Its been proven to be a short term fix and soon after, consoles return to their eternal unconsciousness state :p

The more recent (and popular) method these days is the X Clamp as Graham said. Its been pretty consistent with every person trying it but who knows how long this fix would last aswell

This is not new, info is out for few months. And it is confirmed, some consoles can be brought back for death...

"Please, XBox ! Don't walk toward the light !"

I shouldn't laugh since mine died on me twice already, but I prefer to take it with humor. Not sure I'll be an early adopter for XBox3, though.

I bought it on the release day. Still no signs of trouble.

Just posted to give a minor correction to the fact that people with no problems whatsoever don't usually read or post in threads such as this one.

The towel trick supposedly works by reheating broken solder points.

That's not possible, when reaching the heat needed for resoldering a point it will have destroyed the chip by extreme overheating.
The only thing I could think is that by wrapping an xbox360 in a towel you would make it run warmer inside. This would make parts inside expand slightly due to the heat and perhaps a broken solder point would make contact again (but still be damaged).

I'd never wrap any high power piece of electronics in towels.

Who knows if the damn thing decides to catch fire. RThat would be extraordinarily bad.

Don't be dumb people..Turn it in for servicing.

Peace.
