Picked one of these up over last weekend to replace my crap-tacular HTC Diamond Pro 2 WinMo 6.5 phone. Actually, I really liked the hardware on my HTC, but the operating system just sucks terribly.

Anyway, a combination of the OLED display and the new SGX 540 processor really really rocks on the Android OS. There are some excellent 3D game examples out there that really show off the capabilities of this chipset. Of course, battery life really takes a dive when you're using all that 3D capability ;)

So far though, I'm thoroughly impressed by the performance capabilities. Never thought I'd see the day where something this thin and light could do >30fps on realtime 3D textured, lit and shadowed worlds.

Some people at my uni got one too. Looks pretty nice. Though I must say I'm not a big fan of samsung phone build quality and their software support. I preffer HTC. Especially now it seems all the new models will get a unibody design. Love that aspect of my Legend. Though I'm not sure if the HTC top models have the same graphical umph.

Btw, can I ask how much you paid for it? Over here on a 2 year contract at 20 euro's a month you get the phone for free. At retail its about 450 (so anybody buying it without a contract is stupid ;)).

Anyway, sweet phone. Hope you enjoy it :)

I paid $69 + renewal of 2yr contract. Requires a minimum $15 data plan (200Mb / mo); I opted for the $25 data plan (2Gb / mo) which is well within my normal data usage. Soooo, a bit more pricey than your option it sounds like, but yeah, two years kinda sucks.

So far it's been solid -- the display is simply phenomenal. Daylight viewing is fantastic, colors are almost TOO saturated but the blacks are pure black even at the highest brightness. And the viewing angle is absolutely superb; they say it's truly 180* and I believe it.

Friend has it and he complained about freezing ... does it use swap space without pinning the OS or something?

There is a fix for that freezing lag thing whatever its called. The gist of it is the filesystem its using currently pre modding is fat32 iirc. Then if you run the fix it formats it to ext3 and that speeds the nuts out of that phone. My brother recently did his and his quadrant score went from an 875 to 2200 or something! Hell on my Evo 4G I get 1255!

On another note i just rooted my phone and got rid of all the sprint crapware that I never ever use. Even some of the HTC stuff like twitter and footsteps and all that stuff I removed. I like HTC but I dont like the way they remove some of the way cool stock android stuff for theirs like for example the Gallery application. The stock froyo gallery application is sweet. I think its available in the Samsung phones with all those cool effects and stuff like that. Its quite addicting learning to mod and all that. I hate the Evo's lack of battery time but there are some apps I am using now that I am rooted that do a decent job of eeking out more juice. These phones are just awesome.

No freezing on my phone yet, but I don't have hundreds of apps either -- most of the complaints I've seen are from folks with a shit-ton of apps. I've seen the EXT3 fixes though, and I'm intrigued, but not worried about it until I see it.
