New Bush tax cut

I do not think it is a flat fee. There probably is a good deal of seperation from grunt work and technical positions (communication).

Lot of side benefits, including college tuition scholarships.

More lies from Bush. Being in the military, I can tell you one thing, we aren't voting for him.
Exactly what is the lie in this. Please infor us, since alot of us are not in the military. Seems pretty cut and dry, the Pres. makes an area combat zone and they get more money if they serve in that area. So what is the lie?

A lot of retirees who're now contractors on the base are fairly vehement against Bush. He's apparently cut quite a few of their benefits, though I don't know the details. I overheard one retired senior master sergeant who served in Vietnam make a comment a few weeks ago that he'd be better off being an illegal alien than a retired combat vet. since Bush got in office.

Hmm, Ive lived as an illegal alien for over a decade. My brother still is (although his situation is more complicated) an illegal alien, and I can most definately tell you that being an illegal alien sucks. NO MATTER how bad being a _retired_ combat vet. is, being an illegal alien is hundreds of times worse. You are always worried about being stopped by cops, and being deported. You pay more to go to college, if they even take illegal aliens. You cant enter contests. ;) You cant leave the country for vacations. Tell your friend that he is full of crap.

I never said he's my friend. I'm also not going to go up to a retired SMSgt and tell him he's full of crap, especially when I don't know the details on what benefits have been cut. I think he was referring to medical bennies but I'm not certain.

We were talking specifically about benefits, so you pulling other facets of being an alien in this country is a bit non sequitur in the context of this conversation.

So exactly what are these benefits that illegal aliens have that retired combat vets. which they had??? Neither I or my brother have ever gotten any benefits from the govermnent. Neither medical, SS, college scholarships, or anything else. It seems from your post that the conversation didnt go too deep, so maybe the specifics werent discussed. So as a former illegal alien, trust me when i say we dont get any super cool special benefits that others are envious of. ;)

They don't pay taxes on money earned in combat zones.

That ends up being able to keep ~%20 of their income that would otherwise go to the government.

And Linthat, I somehow don't believe that you speak for the military as a whole.

It'll be interesting to see how the military vote does fall out, though it certainly has time to change this year. I was shocked at the # of people in my guard unit who voted for Clinton in '92, and amused a few years later when I heard them grumbling about military funding cuts. WTF did they expect?

epic, obviously the man wasn't talking about what it was like in the past. he was clearly talking about Bush's new undocumented workers program and the recent cuts to military benefits. he was clearly exercising a bit of hyperbole as well, but with a bit of common sense one can plainly see that the man has a point.

Last I looked the undocumented worker programs has the same chance of passing as a snowball in hell. So exactly what are the new benefits. Even if 99.99% of benefits are cut from ret. combat vets. that will be more than the ZERO benefits currently given to illegal aliens. UNLESS you count the free trip given to your home country if your caught. ;)

"hyperbole", you must have missed that word in my last post. ;)
I saw it, but felt this statement by you need to be corrected:
but with a bit of common sense one can plainly see that the man has a point.
So what exactly is the point that is so plain to see???? There are no benefits to being an illegal alien.

Maybe it was a figure of speech.

the point is that Bush has been pushing benifts for illegal aliens and takeing benifts away from servicemen.
