As one of the very few londoners here, i think i should report this very interesting thing.
We have a paper here in London called Metro. It's a free paper and basically everyone who uses the Tube reads it, as long as you can get their hands on a copy, usually after it's been read by someone else who left it on the train. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of people every morning can read this paper freely on their way to and from work.
Anyway, today i get on the tube and open the paper to see that it's been practically taken over by MS and X360 adverts.
Seriously, every single page was at least 50% occupied by an X360 advert, from Gears of War (launching today here) to any other game the 360 has. Adverts like "100 next gen games NOW" and "Next gen is here NOW", and some about the HDDVD player, playing on being your way to watch HD movies "affordably". Of course any article the paper might have had about the crazy PS3 launch in the US (Which actually wasn't there at all) would have been totally overshadowed by the presence of these adverts.
And funniest thing was the last page, at the back. It was taken up by a green slot with (in Christmassy font): Merry Xbox. Obviously playing on the fact that this Xmas, X360 is your only way to get next gen gaming.
Amazing. If MS keep it up like this in the coming months, i think Sony will really have a big problem. This kind of advert overload will eventually get into people's heads.
Personally, after the third page of massive Xbox360 adverts i was thinking "Desperate much?!", but well i'm in marketing and i know full well what they're doing And it's good for them.
