MotherBoard not recognizing CPU.

Salutations:

Been pitching this questions in other forums but can't quiet get a clear answer.

Have an MS-7501 Ver 1.0 (BIOS 1.3) MSI board with a Phenom II X3 705e CPU. It boots perfectly but doesn't recognize the chip anywhere, CPUZ, BIOS, Power Monitor, RMclock. Was aware about this before buying the CPU and a BIOS update will probably fix it. The thing is im trying to avoid flashing the Board.

Heres what CPUZ says:
phenomx3705e.jpg

Process is correct, code name: not, its a phenom 2 not 1, frequency and cache seems ok.

Does this have any impact on performance? Thats the only thing that worries me, as i consider the name sort of a cosmetic value. :)

try some benches, with or without setting the CPU at 800MHz in the BIOS, there's a bug when a new AM3 processor isn't quite recognised, and frequency isn't set correctly - though CPU-Z gets tricked into believing it's so. So your CPU might be running at 800MHz.

flashing the BIOS isn't particularly dangerous, but I do it from DOS to feel secure (nowadays you can put the DOS on an USB stick with HP USB storage tool)

try a newer CPUz too. But it sounds like a microcode is missing still in your bios.
Yes, realized that. Upgraded to 1.5. Here are the results:

Have DDR2 800. Is this the correct memory frequency setting:

Anyway. After getting the latest CPUz, decided to downloaded AMD overdrive. It recognized everything except the processor name. So started browsing the different options and used the Benchmark. To my surprise the results obtained with this CPU (X3 705e) are lower than the ones obtained with a 2.6 GHZ AMD Athlon 5000+ BE (at stock speeds).

For example: 705e

With the 5000+:

Stock_ 2600 / Overclock 2900
Integer Comp_7780 / 9080
Float P. Comp_5348 / 5658
Mem. Speed _1660 / 1820
Cache Speed_10170/11670
Overall_ 6850/7915

After witnessing this decided to do the flash. Now the CPU gets recognized everywhere but performance is still the same. So got scared to death in vain because when i started the process a thunder storm unleashed. Those 2 minutes lasted for hours.

As you can see the current Floating Point Performance is abysmal :(

Well this happened after the flash was updated with the newest version, the old version (1.3) didn't have the problem.

So i adjusted the multiplier in the BIOS to 12.5. Still, after booting, AMD overdrive registered a 4x multiplier (800MHZ). Made the HUGE mistake to elevate the multi to 12.5x in a single stroke, which caused the system to crash. After a reset, executed AMD overdrive again and everything seems ok so far. Except for the low performance.

Any ideas?

You have DDR memory so 400 MHz is correct. Here's mine, I have 1600 MHz DDR.

Also, and it's just a tip, if you want to take a screenshot of just the active window in Windows, press alt+printscrn. That way you don't have to spend time cropping. :)
