I can't help it, just reading the forum, most of the text is "I don't like spam".
"Shoots spammers with a hammer"? :?: :?: Think I might have to edit your poll :)

FWIW, I do keep a "+1/+1 Mallet of Enlightenment" hanging next to my desk, so it's nearly appropriate.:p

BTW Some of the spam posted contains some very NSFW content which is rather embarrassing.

How does so much spam end up on the forum?
Enough to annoy me :) I think I deleted about 6 today and I noticed others had cleaned up some on the weekend.
Isn't authentication during sign up effective at all?
Not really. It's just a text CAPTCHA. I've proposed we also do an image based one with questions like: Pick the images that use bump mapping or have aliasing :) It should stop, or at least slow down, the Viagra posters :)

You can see those? That's a bit odd. I'm assuming you can't see them until Simon's deleted them, which sort of misses the point. Maybe I'll ask Ratchet about that.

Simon, is there some technical reason you don't do "physically remove" on those? That's policy on blatant spam.

Well, partly because if I made a mistake, it would be too late to correct but mainly because it involves even more mouse clicks. (Yes, I know putting the message in there takes time, but it makes me feel better. Actually, I usually do come back and expunge them properly at a later date).

Btw, where are the big jail sentences against those extremely annoying spammers?

Sure, killing someone is more definite, but irritating millions of people on a regular basis should hold an equal penalty, regarding the total amount of misery caused.
