Jak 3 Media! (Intro & Screens inside)

I didn't want to post the new screens and intro in the last thread on Jak II (and game-design)... so yeah, here it goes:

The trailer looks fantastic! While the graphics haven't changed much (if anything), I must say that I am somewhat looking forward to what the 3rd part will bring. Despite Jak IIs flaws in game-design, over-sized city and some boring missions, I hope that they will keep it as challenging. I also thought Jak II had some of the best things ever seen in a platformer (especially the ability to use your gadgets anywhere in the game). I hope they'll keep those things and I look forward to the humour and of course Daxter (not to mention Kira and the other one.. hehe). Oh and I hope they manage to get rid of the framerate problems (tearing).

BTW; check out the trailer. Good fun! ^^

Maybe they'll even find a use for that friggin orange rat too (after all, the original game was called jak and DAKSTER), and with "use", I mean other than delivering bad puns and crappy one-liners during cutscenes.

Jak2 must have had THE worst use of a sidekick char ever.

Now, if Naughty had borrowed a page from the "Head over Heels" book of game design maybe they could have come up with some intriguing situations, but now it's just double-jump across this chasm, hop from platform to platform, blah blah.

I don't have much in the way of hopes for Jak3, considering how soon after the first game it'll be they're just going to recycle all the left-over ideas they couldn't fit into the first one and have little in the way of changes. Well, that's my perhaps somewhat pessimistic prediction anyway... :)

Hey but Guden,

Daxter was at least playable in some few stages in Jak II (certainly better than not being able to play him as in the first part). ;)

Anyway, I really don't think that it's all that bad - given the trailer, I suspect that this one will feature more 'adventuring' outside the city - or at least will build up on the more enjoyable moments. I certainly can't wait!

I think they are right not to spend a lot of time overhauling the graphics engine. It is very accomplished and will still be adequate come fall 2004. Although I do hope they sort out the tearing.

The level of interaction with the environment and the A.I on the city level is where I think they should spend most of their time.

Level design/mission design is very strong and there is no reason to think the next game will suffer in this area.

Audio, voice acting and cut scenes is also very good. The story in JaK2 was much better than J&D. I wonder where they will go next?

I would like some levels were you are part of a team a bit like Halo, going into battle. They've already stolen from everywhere else, why not here too.

More racing tracks, more skate parks, more mini-games. Play as other characters, not just Daxter, but Kiera, Samos, etc.
