Sega's last gilmmer of hope came in the Playstation 3 exclusive Valkyria Chronicles, a strategy game with action elements. While Chronicles gained rave reviews and a cult following, it too failed to sell well and flopped. Sega has had some luck acting as solely a publisher for other developers. Sega backed Monolith Productions' Condemned series, which has been hailed for making advances in AI, Survival Horror, First Person action, and combat systems. Another highly anticipated title is Obsidian's Alpha Protocol, an Action RPG that lets players experience living as the "Three J.B.s" of spies: Suave James Bond, Professional Jason Bourne, and Aggressive Jack Bauer. But despite being able to bankroll other video game makers, as a Bay Area Game developer, it seems like Sega's former status as a shining star as a Bay will still continue to be at risk.
