My first post after lurking forever...

Is there some hope for other cores? Assuming this is the kyro guys I'm think of, as there was a name change a little while back.

Now, that could be nice. Perhaps intel would use the tech for decent motherboard graphics finally.. Maybe even license the core's that are still in progress.

Anyway, makes a change from talking about you know what..

While it shows that there is a relationship between a business group at intel and imgtec, I wouldn't take that as reason to believe that intel will/has licensed PVR tech to put in their P4 chipsets.

Intel is a big company, with lots of business units. They don't necessarily act together, or with a single mind.

Definitely good to see Imgtec licensing some more of its technology, most of all to such a high-profile partner, should at least secure the cash-flow and maybe its only a first step for further relations. On the other hand, right now it doesn't seem very likely Intel are gonna license 3D-cores from Imgtec. At least Imgtec not being on the new Web-3D-Standard board Intel initiated doesn't indicate favourably for this possibility.

Also, what consequences might this Intel-deal have for Imgtec's position when negotiating with VIA (okay, those are mainly rumors, but quite popular ones, hehe)? Intel and VIA are not exactly on friendly terms...

Yes it is possible Intel bought it as a spoiler to VIA. It is very much Intel style, like unfounded lawsuits to drain competitors.

Actually Simon's reply should suffice...

Guestimate: none.

I never recalled VIA showing any real interest in ImgTec's mobile sollution. I fail to see any kind of conflict here.

As far as things beyond that go, I personally prefer to see some future official announcements, before I can even come close to a guestimate.
