How much impact in sales AMD has so far with Radeon 3800 series

I bought while back from Bestbuy ATI Radeon 3870 for as low as $215 US dollars.

GF8800GT-512MB for ~$290 US dollars is too high.

I do like NEW 8800GT-256MB version of GT for ~$210 US dollars, but it's limited with frame buffer at high resolutions.

My verdict that Radeon 3870 is the winner for price crown and performance it gives for your money that you spend.

At $215, sure. But it's around $250 on Newegg and it usually is outperformed by 8800GT 512 by enough to make the 8800 GT worthy of another $30 or so.

I do agree, I guess I was lucky that I got mine for $215.

If newegg will lower their prices in the range that I payed mine for :D :D then it's worthy for the price.

This is very possibly the least scientific way to look at this, ever, but there are about 5 times as many customer reviews on Newegg for 8800GTs as for HD3870s. And there are still about 3-3.5x more reviews if you count HD3850s.

Now, the timeframes are different, but it's probably fair to say there's a ratio of 2:1+ for G92 vs RV670 if you scale the numbers based on their time on the market. Is this a fair comparison? Yes and no. It is a rough approximation of one specific factor, which is the number of sales at e-tail stores. However, that doesn't take OEMs and System Integrators into consideration, let alone retail in general.

Certainly RV670 is going to increase ATI's market share by a non-negligible percentage, since they didn't compete in that huge price segment before. It's not perfectly obvious by how much though, if that's what you were wondering...

November 2007 story:
I also wanted to point out that many people who was trying to purchase GF8800GT-512 was out of luck do to Nvidia didn't had enough G92 chips for the demand market, and many people went with RV670XT as alternative option.

Caused by production issues or by strong OEM demand drying up the retail channel stock ?
You don't know... ;)
