If you could have 1 sports car, what would it be?

It's where he opens the door and hangs out the side, right? Yeah, the view out the back/sides is pretty rotten on the Countach, but hell, it IS a damn bootiful car! The Diavolo was an ugly bitch sitting next to its predecessor, blech...

Hee hee... anyone (in the UK) see the Top Gear program where they demonstrated how to park one of those? Classic!

Yeah, you have to open the door, sit on the door sill and hang out the car. I suppose that only works if you park on the drivers side.

Didn't they also do a version of that car with a rear view LCD in the dash? Because of the engine, you had no rear view through the back window, so they put a camera in the back and a screen on the dash, and you could use it to park. I might be wrong and be thinking of some exotic Ferrari or something.

I personally think that Diablo is the most beautiful car _ever_.

Nothing against Countach, it's a baeuty as well ;)

SPOOKY!!! I just got an advert banner that was actually relevant! It was advertising sports car insurance!

LOL at Bugatti Veyron.
That must be a real "workers car". :D
I guess that's a Swede-only joke. But "Veiron i Ottan" is a rather well known character in Sweden, and I don't think Bugatti would like that association.

As a Swede, I guess I should be nationalistic and vote for Koenigsegg. :)
But to be honest, I think I'm more interested in a Volta. I've read that they will start a small series production of them. And even in the sub $100.000 range.

Simon F:
So you have noticed that Beyond3D use Ads by Google. They are quite often relevant. But before I realized that, I also found it spooky to read about some realy narrow topic, and then see an ad about the same thing.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find the angular lines of some sports cars terribly attractive. If I were to have the choice of anything, I'd prefer something like an old Jag....

The banner adverts here have become obviously content oriented. Any thread with 'bush' or 'kerry' gets a political advert. The banner on my screen right now is 4 different lambourghini things.

The Diablo is the most beautiful Lamborghini ever, no questions asked. That's how I see things. I've driven in my friend's VT and it is amazing at high speeds. Very nice car and it handles amazingly well also.

I was looking at getting a Gallardo but it was just too refined for me, no tsomething I expect out of Lamborghini. Don't get me wrong, it complements what Audi is trying to do with Lambo, and that is compete with Ferrari head on.

The Pagani Zondz C12 S caught my attention the first moment I saw it in Top Gear. I would love to drive one of those and see how it feels.

The thing is, there are just too many cars floating around that I would love to own. But f there was just one.....then it would be the Lambo Diablo VTTT! Gotta love that one right there.

Vipers are also nice, but stay away from Hennessy Performance. A lot of people are very dissatisfied with the service there. If only Lingenfelter modified other cars instead of Vettes and F-bodies (GM).

Vipers suck :D

Anyway, I'd probably go with a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4. It may not be the fastest, most expensive, best looking car, but it's still one of my favorites. Probably because my dad had one and I learned how to drive a stick (manual transmission) with it. It was great for road trips too, didn't matter if you're crusing down the highway at 95 mph in 6th gear @ 2200 rpm, or driving through the mountains in Colorado. 320hp, twin turbo, all wheel drive, all wheel steering, 18 inch chrome wheels. I miss that car

Other than that, I'd probably go for the new Ford GT.
How could you say vipers suck then say a 3000 GT? It's a pig!!
Set your dreams higher than that!

I'm with Basic, the Volta is awesome. Personally, when it comes to these super cars, I'm all about the technology. The Viper, in this regard is probably the stupidest car ever, not to mention the handling sucks.

Care to back up those claims?
I"m sure I could get more than a few vipers owners to dispute the fact.
The problem is it's a street legal racecar, as such, it's setup for grip, not for noobs.

Having actually owned a Viper amongst a few other fast cars over the years, I can tell you (excluding the original pre 1998 convertables) the handling certainly doesn't suck.

They have their problems, most natably crappy brake pedal feel, but overall handling isn't one of them. They are extremely unforgiving, in the same way that 993 Porches were, if you don't respect the throttle then you're going for a ride.

Back to the topic, I want a Ferrari 360.

I'm sure the handling on Vipers don't suck. But it doesn't seem to be as good as many other supercars.

I remember that I played som Viper-only racing sim once. I got quite frustrated that I lost control over the car all the time, but thought that it just was a strange simulation (or just me not being used to it).
Short thereafter, I saw some supercar race (sorry for not knowing exactly what it was) on TV with Vipers running (among others). I laughed out loud when I saw the Vipers spinning off the track all the time.
I assume that the drivers in such races are fairly good drivers that are used to their own cars, so I don't think you can just blame them.

Still, it's a really cool car.

Btw, I don't claim that the Volta would be any better, since I don't think anything about that is known publically. It was the tech-geek in me that though it was cool. But with a good weight balance, 4WD, and electrical motors that give a smooth power curve with no surprises, there's a reasonable chance that the handling is rather good.

Actually if you ignore things like GT3's which are just racecars that you can buy and happen tobe street leglal, the GTS's were among the best handling stock supercars period. Stock they have a tendancy to understeer on corner entry more than I happen to like (as do almost all production cars), but you just have to learn to steer with your foot.

And please don't base handling on racing games, having driven a lot of fast cars and written more th a couple of racing games. Handing in real life really has little bearing on handling in a "sim", and that includes the hardcore sims. Even with perfect physics (which noone is even close to) it would be a radically different experience, because the interface can't convey what it's like to drive a car.

Ah, that had to be "Viper Racing". I vaguely recall having similar problems with the handling. :D

That Volta looks intriguing. Not sure about "no suprises though"; I bet it really kicks from 0-1mph!

Wow man.. I envy you for owning a viper:D
Ill prolly never be able to a afford one, however.
But uh I just read as much as I can about em.

The Saleen S7 had such a camera and LCD screen. Which reminds me, that is one neat looking car.

ERP:
You missed the point with the sim reference.
As I said, I didn't think the sim was correct.

I just thought it was so funny that a real life event with pro drivers turned out to be the same thing, Vipers spinning off the course all the time.

Electric motors are great for that low-end torque, aren't they? BTW did anyone see the electric Elise? That looked quite interesting.
