Just something interesting I thought I shouldn't point out in the news piece because it's too sensationalistic... According to guardian.co.uk:
The American phone company AT&T has already signed up for Icera-based cards, while Orange is also understood to have certified Icera's kit.
Hmmm, what high-profile 'i'-branded mobile phone might these two carriers have in common? Certainly *if* they had a contract at Apple, the $2B figure could literally be blown away...

You've got to admit that Steve Jobs' claims that there would be a lower-power solution this year matches pretty well with the timeframe for the 65nm Livanto from Icera. However, it still seems more likely to me that they're going with Infineon (likely using the InterDigital 3G stack); however, I wouldn't be incredibly surprised if Icera had the design slot either.

Sorry i dont understand, how would they become a European Broadcom if they merge with a Canadian Company.

Well, they'll still have 65%+ of their employees in Europe, and will do their IPO on the London Stock Exchange - but point granted, that is a problem! ;)
