I tweaked a registry value incorrectly and cannot load XP...

Like a fool, I fiddled with the registry and set the following tweak on my system: http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/display.asp?id=1509 . If the bottom of the page is read carefully, bold red print warning that the tweak is a false one, which should not be performed on Windows XP can be observed. Well, I performed the tweak before reading this, and know, windows boots, but when loading personal settings, it continuously gives "delayed write" errors. Windows does not even continue loading; it only loops these error messages and tells me it does not have enough system resources to continue.

I would like to know if this false tweak would relate in an way to "delayed write" errors. If so, the question is: what should I do to get back in my registry, undo this tweak, to get things back to normal? Any suggestions would be of great help.

BTW, I also tried the follwing tweaks (found here: http://splintercellhq.com/view.php?...ticles/01.30.03), which don't seem to be the problem, but they might be:

http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/display.asp?id=408

Thankyou.

Can you get into Windows using safe mode? I don't know exactly what key combination you need to use to get into safe mode, but I'm assuming it's F8 or F5 like Win9x. Or you could just restart your system while the WinXP Boot screen is showing and the next time it will bring up the boot recovery options menu.

The 'Last Know Working Configuration' (might have the name wrong) in the recovery options menu might also help you, but It also may not, depending on what the tweaks were.

You are in luck. That registry change you made was one that can be recovered by reverting to the last known good configuration. You will have to press F8 at startup and then select it.

Last Known Good Configuration restores the following section of the registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet].
