From the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, St. Paul, Minnesota. The major metro area is near the Wisconsin border, and most of urban Wisconsin (Milwaukee, etc) is at the other end of the state. With the result that St. Paul/Minneapolis newspapers tend to cover western Wisconsin.

Anywho:

A late-night couch-towing stunt in Hartland Township, Wis., led to the hospitalization of three men Sunday.

Joseph M. Schoeder, 23, of Beldenville, Wis., was in a Chevy pickup pulling a couch through a pasture about 1:30 a.m. - with three other guys on the sofa, authorities said.

It's unclear what went wrong, but an emergency call about an injured person led Pierce County deputies to a campsite on 620th Street.

The three people on the couch had suffered unspecified injuries.

Timothy J. Flynn, 21, of Welch, Minn., and Cole T. Eckhoff, 21, of Red Wing, Minn., were taken to the Red Wing hospital. A hospital official said Sunday afternoon the two were no longer there.

Bradley J. Johnson, 24, of Ellsworth Wis., was transported by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he remained in critical condition Sunday.

The men in the incident did not return calls requesting comment Sunday.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

About the only thing that mars the perfection of that article is that he left out the one sentence everyone reading this --and no doubt the Pierce County Sheriff's Department as well-- is thinking: "Alcohol use is suspected." But he has to have extra points for the deadpan, "It's unclear what wrong. . . ."

Stupid kids, I'd never do anything that dumb!

(me rubs sore spot from "car surfing" incident from about 25 years ago ruefully  )

"Couch towing?" Wtf.... Were these people not satisfied with water tubing? You know, on a more FORGIVING medium provided you inevitably crash. They obviously hadn't planned for that.
