There is good possibility that the #2 AQ man, might be cornered in pakistan. ;) Joy, joy, happy, happy.
Two Pakistani government sources told CNN that intelligence indicates the surrounded figure is Ayman al-Zawahiri, al Qaeda's number two leader.

Pakistani forces are waiting until sunrise to launch a heavy air assault to prevent any members of the al Qaeda group from escaping, sources told CNN.

I hope this is true, maybe we can get him alive. OBL could be caught in a few weeks if we get good intel from AZ. ;)

Hmm, looks like we might take out about 200 AQ fighters along with whichever high value target it turns out is there too. Doesnt look like the pakistanies are going to take a chance, and instead will just pound the hell out of the area first.

ps on a side note, how [cool] would it be if we caught obl and his #2 and then made a glass jail room for them at the center of wtc. I doubt it would be allowed under the geneva convention, but it would be cool.

Even cooler, suspend it high in the air, disconnected from everything else aside from an extension walkway that would be retracted when not in use, in a super-high-security X-Men kind of implimentation. Just be sure to keep anything magnetic away from OBL. Wait... I went too far there...

maybe he breaks and we get some good info out of him... still someone else will become #2...

Hrm.. not all #2's are equal. That most certainly would apply to #1's as well. The idea is that whomever steps up to lead these groups will be caught at least if not killed in the process. Who's next?

Case in point, is the #3 guy caught in pakistan last year. I dont think they got someone as valueable to fill in. Then again im not in the loop, so who knows.

The real question is, will it change anything?

I think it does. The capture of leaders is a major defeat for any group. Leaders like Bin Laden are not a dime a dozen I suspect the same could be said for whale #2. Not only is it difficult to replace such leaders but it is demoralizing to the organization whomever they are.

I feel if we dedicated the resources against terrorism that we diverted to focus on Iraq, we'd have had these guys by now. Here's hoping we get this guy, or at the very least kill those few hundred Al-Qaeda fighters.

I sense a Daisy Cutter in the future of these men.......
They'll crawl out of there hideout when there bleeding from every natural orifice as well as some unnatural ones.

Im going to have to disagree with you. ;) If they even catch a small percentage of the people held up there, it will alot of intel these people have. Killing them all gets you very little. But capturing and then "interrogating" them get you a great wealth of info.

Also, Im guessing pakistan would not want the US to play an _active_ role in this fight. The populace would not like that at all.
