New Info and High Res Screens for Chrome Hounds

Last but not least, Sega today dated Chromehounds, its forthcoming mech-combat game for the Xbox 360. In development at Tokyo-based From Software (Otogi, Armored Core), the game will ship for Microsoft's next-gen console in spring 2006, around the same time as the PlayStation 3 launch.

Sega did not release any rating or pricing information for Chromehounds. However, it did release a bevy of details on the game, including the fact it will offer both "an absorbing single-player campaign and a fully customizable Xbox Live experience," according to Sega of America vice president of marketing Scott Steinberg. Steinberg also said the game would sport both cooperative and competitive online play and allow players to choose from "thousands of upgrade options, which affect both the look and performance of player mechs."

Sega also said that Chromehounds would have "cooperative and competitive campaigns for up to 12 players" simultaneously, and let players exert squad-based control in "tactics commander" mode. The publisher also promised "photorealistic visuals" of desolate, conflict-swept battlefields.

Its looking pretty good to me.
Nice explosions and thick smoke.
But um, something is really bothering me....
Why use nintendo textures/pixels on next-gen consoles? For example:

On the Trax

The graphics are a mixed bag right now, IMO. But if the environments are destructible like From's last games, it could make up for the deficiencies.

those kinda look like placeholder textures considering the quality of the rest of the mech and scene.

I seriously hope the final game wont relly on such blend wideopen scenes. Streets are way to wide. Makes you feel in a empty world. meh...

I was hoppeing for a more real aproach in scenary design, something like HL2,GTAxo_O city streets or something futuristik since mechs are science fiction.
Would be cool to use the guns to open paths in parallel streets like firing through a building with a heavy high caliber machine gun and watch the bullets tear appart the walls in detail with smoke and debris in all its mighty Mech Destructuion power. Now that would be impressive since it would affect the gameplay allot. imagine yourself hidding behind a(of) building(s) repairing while another player is looking for you tearing appart buildings after buildings shouting "You can run but you can't Hide" with some thermall/X-ray scanner trying to get a lock on you! HAH! Now thats what i expect from a mech game.
I hope someday ill see a game like that.

Btw, the mech designs are looking very good!!!

City streets are too small with mechs unless they were designed to be wide. Besides, these maps look city-wide. There's no reason to assume why you couldn't just move inwards ala MechAssault.

Looks great. Exact same style as steel battalion, both in art design and engine rendering techniques. My type of game all the way.

Not too bad but I'm wondering about any word on the MechAssault series from Xbox 1? Although you can never have enough Mech based games anyone heard of word about the series continue on through to the Xbox 360?

God no! Killzone, between the PS2 and PS3 versions, has made my foruming experience worse than any game series I can think of.

Anyway, Chrome Hounds blindsided me. I was expecting a fairly good-looking, pretty cheesy mech game. But already the game looks better than I expected it to look when done. Plus, the production values seem to be quite high. Surely this is not the same developer that made Metal Wolf Chaos.

Yeah, I think that's the point SEGA handles it. It seems SEGA's US team is joining in it too.

One cool thing someone brought up in another forum is that it looks like the mechs may have a mix and match system for more then just the weapons config, three types of mobility walker, tank, and hover craft. Could make for interesting online if the advantages an disadvantages are ballenced well.

There's a article about it at IGN.

The multiplayer sounds very good.

Um the video of actual game play looks not so hot as the trailer, but I think it'll be nice when you see it on a big HDTV.

It's always difficult to tell if the gameplay is really bad, or if it's just a crappy player.

Trade show demos usually have the AI either turned way down, or off completely so that people can get some good play time in before they die and have to let someone else play. I can see this game being really fun with good AI and some familiarity with the game.

Then again, I can see it being boring and repatative as well.
