GPU from Korea!!!

Sunday

Newcomer
It’ll be presented on upcoming ISSCC in February. Available information says:

A 36fps SXGA 3D Display Processor with a Programmable 3D Graphics
Rendering Engine

KAIST, Daejeon, Korea

A 3D display processor with a programmable 3D graphics rendering engine is
implemented. The integrated rendering engine supports Pixel Shader 3.0 and OpenGL
ES 2.0. A 3D image synthesis engine generates 3D images at 36fps. The die contains
1.74M gates and occupies 5×5mm2 in 0.18μm CMOS and dissipates 379mW at 1.8V.

yeah google searched some of the names and specs of the chip, some college research project it seems, joint venture with philips possibly, but definitly looks like embedded stuff.

At 5x5mm it presumably is not for the mobile phone end of the embedded market.

It's implemented using a 180nm litho. process, so using modern technology it might be reasonably small enough for the phone market, assuming this is aimed at commercial applications (which it may not be).

Ah yes. I completely overlooked the technology it was using. I wonder how small it would become with a more recent process.
