Gotham Knights

I think console gamers are going to have to walk it back.... because the CPUs are the limiting factor here, and mid gen refreshes aren't going to change that issue.

I'm personally doubtful of mid-gen updates this console generation, but why wouldn't the CPUs improve?

PS4 had a 1.6Ghz CPU, PS4 Pro had a 2.1Ghz CPU. Similarly, Xbox One had a 1.75Ghz CPU, Xbox One X had a 2.3Ghz CPU. Other games are pushing frame rates over 60Hz, many 120Hz.

Because no developers will target it wrt game design. There would likely only be a resolution/RT bump and that's it.

Anyway, just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I think if that were the case, i.e. little effort put into the more powerful platform with a lower install base, then we would be seeing way more
cross-generation games that only ran at 30fps with a solid 4K on PS5, Series S and Series X.

Some games did run at higher frame rates on the mid-gen consoles last generation and some games run at higher frames on Series X over Series S. Developers seem willing to put the effort in because in many cases, it's not much effort. If the hardware can run the game at 60 over 30, most providing that option, along with weird options like 120Hz/40, VRR/90 and full on 120.

What we are seeing is the opposite, the choice of Performance/Fidelity/intermediate. How this game runs on PC will tell us a lot about it's technical foundation. But when multiplayer games like Dirt 5 and Destiny 2 can run at 120fps, Gotham Knights being unable to crack 30 on current gen hardware raises all sort of questions. Most of them, 'WTF'. :runaway:

I hope you're right.

And as to your last point... the biggest point I'm making here, is that it's not even about just this one game. There's ALWAYS going to be games which are better optimized and more technically sound than others.. but what I'm seeing by a lot of console fans now, is that they're above playing at 30fps altogether... which IMO... will impede developers who actually want to create next gen experiences on these consoles.

People are talking about dropping last gen baggage so that we can finally move on with "next gen"... and they're simply moving the barrier to "your games must be 60fps or I wont buy them"..

And I'll be 100% straight... I WANT games to target 30fps on consoles.. I want the best fidelity and visuals that developers can make for consoles... because of course on PC we can brute force past that. Now of course that doesn't mean that 30fps games which aren't doing anything special visually shouldn't be criticized.. of course they should, just like bad ports should on PC... however what I'm seeing is a lot of "I'm not going back to 30fps"... which makes me comment the way I do. It doesn't mean that I'm saying all gamers feel that way.. or that if a game is visually mindblowing and only runs at 30fps that they wont be accepting of that... because I guarantee you they will. All I'm saying is that if we want real next gen experiences, they may have to change that attitude.

Was that just a random person of the net?
XS wouldn't affect what fps PS5 & XSX could do, as the cpu & ssd is the same, so everything else is graphically scalable.

From what I have seen posted by others on the matter and if they are accurate, he is a random person who does NOT work for the studio but has absolute hatred for Series S since early on.

I believe he was a twitter user but the damage was done because it became repeated on reddit , neogaf and other communities

Seemed to be some senior game artist, although not working on that title.
He seemed to have a serious dislike for XSS, which is fine. But making crazy statements to fit your own narrative is something else.

I am sure that must have been some 30fps games on PS5 and Series X but I cannot think of any off the top of my head. The Matrix demo was 30fps but that was a small team, on a small budget on a short deadline.

As for wanting 30fps on console, I get that and a lot of games - the vast majority I've played on PS5 and Series X - give the player that option of performance or fidelity, sometimes with RT as the thing you need to give up to go over 30. I am both surprised and really impressed that so many devs are giving more options to console gamers and letting them decide which way to go.

I think before current generation (during the latter speculation months) we already saw it coming that 30fps would be the norm when targetting 'true next gen' visuals. Atleast theres the performance modes like on PS4 pro/onex/uncapped FPS for higher framerates though with lower resolutions and settings (often no RT). That 4k60 dream for next generation games was never going to come true.

For those unaware, the developer behind the game Gotham Knights is "WB Games Montreal".

On another note Callisto Protocol, a game that pushes more in terms of visuals, will include a 60fps mode as well

It begs the question what prevents Gotham Knights from including a 60fps mode, since the game doesnt seem to push the envelope significantly more than what we got from Arkham Knight

That much was apparent from all the trailers. It also seems to be a Division type game with damage numbers and enemy sponges.
