Will game music ever get its own Grammy award? It's been over four years since AVault first asked musician and composer Chance Thomas that question. Now Thomas reports that progress is being made once again. The leadership of the Game Audio Network Guild – which is made up of musicians and composers involved in the interactive entertainment industry - recently submitted 40 game music soundtracks to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences for the next awards show competition.

The first campaign led by Thomas was successful in getting game music soundtracks included in three new Grammy categories - including Best Score Soundtrack. Their current effort is aimed at getting game music its own category.

The odds are in their favor: The president of the Game Audio Network Guild recently sent a letter to the organization's 450-plus members soliciting membership in the Recording Academy. The group currently has more than 75 voting members - which puts them in a strong position for their own category.

In the words of Thomas: "The road goes ever on." Here are

Some interesting entries.. I have a feeling they just rounded up every high profile game this year and lumped them together, because while some are outstanding (ie: Akira Yamaoka/SH3, Nobou Umatesu-sama/FF X-2), others are down right attrocious (ie: "various artists"/VF4:Evo, shudder).

Too bad the games with truly the best music this gen so far missed out (due to being released 2+ years ago), ie: Rez, Halo, MGS2, FF X, etc.
