Forza 5 [XO] *large pics inside*

It definitely has slow down, but I'd expect that of any unfinished game to be honest.

It looks good, but as usual nowhere near the trailers they make. At least this time it appears they did them in engine as there's some good looking stuff when selecting the car colour in another video, but in a race isn't a patch on that stuff.

That appears to be from the way that video is encoded. Watch the Blim video or the ign or gamespot video, there are no slowdown. Infact, this is the first video that I have seen with it.
It looks as good as the trailer. The other one with the stationary car is forzavista. That, does contain more detail in the car, but you would already know this, if you have been following the series.

I've just watched one of the gamersyde downloaded videos, and I think it looks very good. Pretty clear though that this track won't have a day-night cycle, as that all has to be very pre-baked. But still very pretty, reminds me of good ol' Citta d'Aria, which was one of my favorite tracks in GT4.

What are the telltale sign showing that the lighting is pre-baked? the dev never said anything of the sort.

Well, one tell-tale sign is that it doesn't change every lap. Another is that it looks far too good. ;) Devs that have dynamic lighting tend to want to show off this by having the lighting actually change every lap, not just because you can, but also because the sacrifices of dynamic lighting are visible in just about everything.

Those paint shaders in the first two pics look great, but will it look like that in gameplay is the question (and will the car model LOD be that high in gameplay?)

And can't they use tesselation on things like the rear view mirror in the cockpit view?

I'm not also entirely sure the city tracks look much better than say PGR4, I was watching a F5 gameplay video and thought the buildings looked somewhat flat and boxy compared to PGR:

Though Turn 10 were never good at doing city based tracks so it's probably just an art thing rather than anything else.

Darn, your pictures certainly hit a nerve. I want PGR back.

PGR4 was one of the most impressive racing games, graphics wise, above Forza 2-3 (Forza 4 is a tough match). Even PGR3 is still impressive these days, and I still have the game at home from day one.

PGR2 was my favorite game in the series and from the sounds of it -the company is still alive, with a different name- PGR5 could be more like that, adding to it the technology and capabilities of a next gen console.

Forza 4 did a perfect job wringing every ounce of power it could out of this poor aging console called Xbox 360 though.

Even so, PGR4 is more impressive than Forza graphically because of the detail of the environments AND buildings especially -they look flatter in Forza, a Turn 10 thing perhaps, as you say-.

Microsoft should have gotten the guys who did the graphics for this to bring back the series, the cars in PGR3 and PGR4 have very real reflections & the vehicles aren't overly shiney-shiny like in some versions of Forza -2 and 3- or dull.

Talking about this brings back a lot of nostalgia, it reminds me of the times I used to endlessly discuss about racing games. Thanks for sharing.

I do hear from other people who played the game on the E3 show floor that the environment doesn't look as detailed as you would expect. It's been hard to get a good impression from videos so far - what I've seen looked quite good, and I certainly like the track, and the general lighting on it.

It gave me a bit of a vibe of one of my favorite tracks in another game, and I really hope we'll see some more of these types of track next-gen.

Warning: this is not next-gen, not even current-gen, but previous-gen :D

As for PGR, off-topic, but I thought the lighting downgrade from PGR3 to PGR4 wasn't worth it. The image quality was much better in PGR4, but somehow it didn't have the same impact on me as PGR3 did, with its wonderful light effects, even if that game was upscaled.

GT4 at its best. -I can't believe that ran at 60fps, PS2 was nuts- I shared lots of discussions with GT fans when Forza 1 came out, some of them certainly stimulated really really excellent debates. Some of the GT guys were amazing and of course Forza fans were well informed, and screenshots comparisons aside, there were a lot of technical talk.

I didn't remember GT4 to be that good though. Legendary series.

I agree with you that PGR4 looked more dull and subdued than PGR3, and I couldn't put it into words but the correct description is that it was maybe all about the light, as you say.

I still have PGR3 at home I might give it another try while I wait for the next generation to begin.

Back on Forza 5, some more awesomeness. (no sound -but a commentator-, and I love the Shape -one of my favourite pieces of hardware in the APU-, but the graphic effects are fantastic, how the light bounces off the dashboard... )

The section where you run through the trees is amazing and it reminds me of the Trial Mountain Circuit from GT .

Btw have they mention anything about TOD , weather etc ?

What I like about Turn10 is that they have game ready for new console while Polypohny Digital is releasing new game for PS3 month later after new console is released and that is if the game is not delayed.

Absolutely true. Of course on the reverse side, there's a lot of PS3 owners that will be happy with all the great games coming out for them sitll this year.

But as a typical early adopter, I really like it. I'm going to say it again though - if Forza / Microsoft forces me to buy yet another wheel for their platform, then they may as well not have bothered. Which would be a shame, because this track is definitely one of the best designed ones that I've seen from Turn 10 so far.

Like they say in the video, I don't know if TOD is supported or not, but it seems unlikely. As for weather, it hasn't been confirmed and it won't be in the final game, imho. It is a feature of some importance and they didn't publicise it for now.... Weather would be perfect, and it was really well implemented in PGR4. They got the tone right, imho, when it rained. When it was snowy, the game didn't look that good, it looked dull compared to PRG3, as Arwin pointed out before.

It's one of the secondary issues of developing a new game that runs on new hardware, and I expect those features when they get used to the hardware.

As for GT, Kaz Yamauchi recently blamed GT's delay on the PS3. I could share the link here but I don't know if the mods would give me an infraction. I am fearful I might follow the tracks of Reiko and his Neogaf debacle, just here.

Sorry but if no weather , no TOD (so no dynamic lighting , everything prebaked ?) this is almost embarrassing . After all those promises from T10 in the previous installments and the various excuses (old hardware , priority for stable framerate) i 'd expect that now , with a new console we at last should get all those things.
As it is , it's just a prettier Forza4 .
