F1 brings in knockout qualifying for 2006
Qualifying will now take part in three phases. The five slowest cars will drop out after a first 15-minute session, another five will drop out after a second 15-minute session. The remaining ten cars will then compete for pole in a final 20-minute session.

I'm thinking they've missed the point with the aero changes again. 2005 changes to the front wing, diffuser and banning rear-wheel flip-ups have actually increased the turbulent zone behind the rear wing to around 2seconds, increasing it from the 0.5-0.7s it was previously. Ironically those changes were made to improve overtaking too. It's the brakes that are the problem IMO. Most tracks will provide ample overtaking opportunities if you decrease the efficiency of the brakes.

Glad to see a return to tyre changes for next season - hopefully proper pit stops too although I don't know if Mad Max has imposed a limit on the number of personnel allowed to work on the car....I hope not.

Qualifying is also better now, I hope they are in fact running with low fuel in all rounds. The 1lap system was totally farcical, and a complete bore. I still prefer the old 1hr 12laps each system from pre-2003.
