Far Cry uses PS 1.1 with FX cards?

Could translate if necessary, but essentially they are quoting Tommti's findings. They ran Far Cry with a 9800 Pro and with their 3D-analyze utility made the application think that an FX card was installed instead of R3XX. The game was then rendered with PS 1.1, which leads them to conclude that this problem is not a driver bug but another performance/image quality trade-off.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere.

it's not quite exact. Gffx does use more 1.1 shaders and less 2.0/x ones compared to radeon. Gffx doesn't only use 1.1 shaders

With default settings it does use 1.1, to get 2.0 to work you need to change the settings to very high (for lightning) and the rest to high (IIRC).
