Ethics Debate: Hexus Throws Down on Mags

Intro:

This one is a worthwhile gander if you are thinking about buying a print title for a trip on a train or plane, shocking revelations - but how deep do they really go? Just how bad are the ethics of UK newstand magazines? Abysmal, we reckon, judging by the false claims made in coverlines on the current issues of two Playstation titles - Play and PSW - to have played on a PS3. . .

Article:

http://gaming.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5309

How 'bout it folks, are websites inherently less unethical about such things, particularly the ones that don't charge a subscription for you to find out they are. . .err, gilding the lily, in their cover description?

Are UK magazines any different than others?

Is Hexus just out to cause a fight and get some cheap hits? I've often seen them complain about some competitors having unfair source advantages. . .but that's not really what's going on here, or is it?

Well there are factual inaccuracies in the Hexus article......

Not least of which no PS3 devkit has ever been Mac based.

Kit versus final production hardware is splitting nose hairs. Talk about being picky. I don't really consider that misleading.

Macs are the developement kits???? That's the first I heard of Macs being used.

I don't see the problem,really.

I mean you can't expect the magazine to state "we have played the deh-103x!"

Plus a devkit *is* a ps3.i.e RSX and CELL.

Possibly they got confused with early XB360 kits? As the article states, it isn't written by their usual gaming guy. But that's intangibly tangential to the point they are making. . .

Silly writing style of the Inq mixed with self-righteous nonsense of [H]. Not a good thing.

I must admit my first thot was intended profiles in courage should not be authored by "Willy Deeplung". The harder you smack someone the more responsibility you have, in my view, to make sure they saw who was wielding the paddle. I mean, is there confidential info in the article itself that would justify hiding behind a nom? Nope. So spreading doubt about the proper addressee of the return hate would seem to be the aim. . .

It's funny because it's true.

Ah, there he is! Now, where's my key to the Regulars clubhouse, eh? :D

I really don’t see why they are getting so worked up, it almost sounds as if they have thrown a tantrum because uncle Ken hasn’t given them any time on a dev kit. I don’t see any difference to psw saying hands on with ps3 even though is was a dev kit and some sites having a hands on with oblivion two months back before it was released.

Also, what’s the score with Hexus showing scans of the mag? Isn’t that slightly naughty?
