The Wii version Dragon Quest X won't be released until some time next year. By then, the game will have been in development for close to seven years.

This is according to former Square Enix employee Takehko Hoashi. At his Twitter today, Hoashi wrote that the game has already been in development for six years. He wonders if Square Enix will actually release it fiscal term given the reaction the recent announcement has gotten.

Dragon Quest X will have a presence at Tokyo Game Show next week. Square Enix updated the game's official site today with notice that a video will be shown at the event.

The unveiling event from this past Monday already had a lengthy trailer and plenty of gameplay footage. It's likely that the TGS footage will be the same. However, the fact that Square Enix is promoting the game at the event suggests that we may get additional news as well, including details on the promised beta test.

Jump Shares New Dragon Quest X Details:
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/09/09/dqx_details_in_jump/

The latest issue of Weekly Shounen Jump has a huge blowout on Dragon Quest X this week. For its first look at the game, the magazine provides a few specifics on some of the features we heard about earlier in the week at Square Enix's announcement press conference.

...

Players can create their character as one of five races: Ogre, Elf, Dwarf, Pukuripo, and Wedi. The game also has a sixth race, humans. Jump says that you create your character from one of the five races, but the footage at the unveiling event did appear to show play as a human character as well.

Humans appear to play a major role in the game's story, as Jump says that you'll be solving a mystery involving the human world. "Has something happened in the world of humans?" asks Jump.

The game is set in the world of Astoldia. This world is split into four continents, Ogleed, Eltona, Dwachakka, Pukuland, and one island chain, Wena Islands. These each correspond to one of the five races.

The five areas surround a mysterious area where something seems to be amiss. Jump doesn't put one and one together, but the central area appears to be the "human world" mentioned above.

Jump's two page spread is full of screenshots and artwork, including samplings of Akira Toriyama's new monster work.

More DQX details from Jump:
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/09/25/make-the-home-of-your-dreams-in-dragon-quest-x/

Jump has a detailed look at Dragon Quest X: Waking of the Five Tribes’ town and you can own a piece of it. Players can build a house in Astordia in a residential block of the town. Houses can be customized, but Jump didn’t discuss this feature in detail.

Dragon Quest X’s hub world also has an inn where you can rest at to restore HP. The ground floor has a concierge too which informs players about events in the game. Screenshots also show a blacksmith, likely a place where you can improve your equipment and create new items, plus a bazaar. You can display wares at the traveler’s bazaar. Sounds like that’s going to be the place where you can sell gear to other players. Dragon Quest X also has a post office and Jump hints that you may be able to send letters to friends and perhaps even give items to other players there too.

Dragon Quest X's story has lots of volume; may have a last boss:
http://andriasang.com/comybe/

Game Memo is reporting on a number of new features for Dragon Quest X. The site doesn't provide a source for the info, but they tend to be pretty accurate, so we can probably take their word for it.

Here's what's new in the Game Memo story:

The game's story will have lots of volume, with the hope that players can continue to play online for a long time.

Outside of story, you'll find a lot of gameplay content, as each of the game's five races have their own specific quests.

While it's common for online games to not have an "ending" with a "last boss," it appears that this will not apply to DQX.

The game's inn facility will now have a concierge. The concierge will give you info about events.

While the game will have auto save, you'll still be able to go to the church to pray in order to save.

The game will have a post office through which you can send letters and items to friends without directly meeting.

The game world will be many times bigger than Dragon Quest VIII's massive world.

Your player character is actually human, but after some sort of happening, he turns into one of the five announced races.

You start the game off in a small village, where you live with either your brother or sister. The game's character making feature allows you to create this family member as well.

Interesting that Dragon Quest X will be a dual release on Wii and Wii U, I'll be waiting to see how the graphics turn out on the Wii U version.

Thursday is Dragon Quest X update day, and today's update includes a look at the game's party play component, its AI-driven support character system, and the latest monsters.

...

On the invited end, DQX provides you with the ability to specify how long you'll be able to join someone's party. The screens below show one new party member agreeing to joining up just for an hour. The inviter can select to reject the newcomer if the time limit isn't sufficient.

...

The game provides you with some handy features when playing online.

You can select to make your character follow a particular member -- useful if you're not sure where to go.

...

As you explore, you'll encounter other parties doing battle with enemies. Even if you're not part of that party, you can select a "support" command. The members of the other party will see their tension rise, giving them an advantage.

...

You select AI party members by speaking to the staff at the town pub. The AI characters will follow you in a line like in past Dragon Quest games, and will automatically move in battle according to strategies that you've set.

Dragon Quest X introduces a new Artisan System for creating items. Square Enix provided a look at that today, along with a look at the game's mage class.

To make items in Dragon Quest X for yourself and for other players, you register your character at a guild. Once registered, you'll need to gather materials and recipes for making specific items.

...

The game lets you register as a variety of different professions. Each has its own work place. Shown here, the work place for a weapon smith.

...

There's an actual work component to your profession, played in the form of a mini game. When making weapons, for instance, you'll need to forge the weapon shape properly, keeping an eye on a few gauges as you pound at the raw materials.
