Did i just get scammed? Google Messenger suddenly asks for my phone number, saying its for RCS availability notification

so for no reason, suddenly when im in google messenger, a pop up appeared with official-looking design. It looks really like part of messenger UX.

it asks for my phone number, saying its for RCS availability notification.
i gave it my phone number

now, every 15 minutes, i got a text message saying YOUR MESSENGER VERIFICATION CODE IS ..............

the phone i installed google messenger and the phone with the SIM Card are different.

maybe that's why the scammer/google keeps asking for SMS verification code? because google messenger cant receive the verification SMS.

I think you've been halfway scammed. If you give the verification code you'll be fully scammed, at least that's what my spidey sense is saying.
