Crash Bandicoot 4 [XO, PS4]

I don't like it very much. Crash's face looks weird and overall I think it's less impressive than Ratchet.

EDIT: nevermind, I thought it was a PS5 title! :runaway::LOL::LOL: However, my opinion on Crash's face stands the same.

yeah i prefer the trilogy remake graphics style

It's an Activision title so I could see this on the Xbox too.

hm

The game has a new art style, which is noticeably different from Crash Team Racing and N. Sane Trilogy. Why the change up after the last two remakes?

Paul Yan: It was important for us to set a new look to be distinct from the remasters. We want to set a new tone for all future games moving forward. The remasters N. Sane Trilogy CTR were built in the alchemy engine and we’ve built this from the ground up in Unreal and so there are decisions that we’ve made both stylistically in terms of how do we maximize the amount of detail that we put into the screen while changing up the camera so we can see more, as well as playing to the strengths of the game engine itself.

There's a lot more in the interview. :p

I actually like this design on crash. It feels closer in spirit to the original than the remaster. It is more expressive and cartoony to my eyes at least. It always felt like crash lost a bit of life in the HDfication.

But I guess that is more of the difference in how each person's imagination fills in the blanks left from the low-res original. Looking back with a clinical eye, the original games were indeed very squash-n-stretchy, but not terribly more than the remaster. It's just that my mind's eye was reading their intent thare and filling in the very best of Tex Avery and Chuck Jones (which indeed is what they were going for, by Andy's own admission) but in all its rudimentarity it never got fully there.

I just don't get the weird side stripe on crash's jeans. Why this love for adding needless complexity to cartoon desinga. Crash wears jeans and converse sneakers. It's a 90's grunge/punk-rock outfit. Now he is a soccer mom fresh out of North Face. It just adds noise to a clean and readable design.

All that said, I'm cautious with this one. I want it to be great, but the oportunities for it to be not are too many.

These games are deceptively simple. While on the surface they seem easy to make, there is a lot of care and craftsmanship separating a mediocre platformer from a great one.

It's easy to diss the non-ND sequels, as they did on the end of this trailer, but the joke will be on them if they can't do any better. It even seems ironic that they mockinly lable them as non-cannon while they already couldn't help themselves from mucking up with character design, different power ups and everything. They already are messing around with the legacy the same way the sequels did...

Let's wait and see...

Well, it seems that those who dislike the new character design are not just a few people... I've read lots of comments complaining about it, so far.

Will this be the next Sonic-gate?
