Can Ep. 3 be saved?

That was friken hillarious. It's so true.

I remember there were some Starwars fans at a local hobby store and I was talking to a buddy, he was saying the yet to be released Phantom Menace would be great, I said, it'll be complete ass compared to B5, regardless of production values, writing and directing are very improtant. And, Lucas and Co suck horribly in that department, Starwars in the 70s was great due to the special effects, it distracted most folks from the large amounts of ass that littered it -- didn't suck, though. The fanboys were about ready to kill me.

BTW, I think I know why we had Ewoks. Look at Lucas, he's short, round and hairy. In fact, I'd call him a partially shaven Ewok.

Sigh when will this end .

Starwars was nothing more than a b rated movie that people loved.

Why would the new ones be anything else but b rated movies .

Your own hype and memorys ruined the movies for you.

My 5 year old cousin at the time loved phantom menace. I did not like it. But when I first saw star wars i was also 5 years old.

If i was my age now when i saw them , i would laugh at the bad acting , the crappy dialogue and the cheesy plot .

Yeah but the problem is that Lucas stripped away everything that was loveable and now all that's left is the b-movie.

The original Star Wars was hardly a B movie.

No ?

Perhaps you forget all the reasons why it was a b movie .

Making a ton of money and setting records does not make it an a movie.

The original Star Wars was an epic done right, much like LOTR has been done recently. It was precisely when Lucas had the special effects tools he wanted, starting with the Phantom Menace, (and the "Special Editions"), that everything else was neglected and the movies turned to crap. We can only hope he dies or something before this film is completed, so that it can be salvaged by a competent director. That piece John posted was spot-on.

Surperb insight, especially the line about 'what would a flim look like if you gave the director of Plan 9 from outer space a $200 million budget'!

Priceless!

Fire Hayden Christensen, whose single emotive capacity is sullen petulance, and whose attempts to put on the magisterial rage that must become Darth Vader’s hallmark instead sound like a tenth-grader whose dad won’t let him borrow the car.

See, I don't particularly have this issue with him Episode II. I think he played Anakin the way he was supposed to; that is, Anakin is a tenth-grader whose dad won't let him borrow the car. Or rather, he's a padawan whose master won't let him off his leash. He's building resentment for the strict rules of the Jedi order and being encouraged by the chancellor. I have no problem with him acting like a snot nosed brat. I don't think a responsible, mature teenager would have had the motivation or capacity to become Darth Vader.

The problems I have with Episodes I and II stem more from the CGI characters. Jar-Jar is bad enough, but ALL of the CGI characters have some of the worst lines and voice acting ever. C3PO was built by a 6 year old kid from junk parts on a small desert planet at the edge of the galaxy, and apparnetly has an infintely better voice synthesizer than every droid in either the republic or the trade federation. I don't know what those pig/cow/anteater creatures Anakin rides were supposed to be, but they looked retarded, and the shot of him riding one was one of the worst animations I've seen.

Do not name that movie in the same sentence as Star Wars!!!

U don't wanna give people strange ideas!! LOTR sequels anyone?!?!?
LOTR-3: What happened before...
LOTR-2: What happened a bit after -3 and before -1...
LOTR-1: What happened right before the interesting and better movies begin.

Now that i think about it, there would be much more potential in the LOTR franchise than that B-movie that Star Wars has always been.

Star Wars was fantasy. As soon as it started it said, "A long time ago, in a galaxy far away", and you knew that you just had to suspend belief. It was an old fashioned Good vs Evil movie in a self-contained universe.

The whole trouble with the new movies is that they are trying to place the events in some kind of rational context. Lucas is trying to explain the events that lead up to Star Wars rather than just letting us enjoy it for what it is - escapist fantasy. Who cares about what the motivation for Anakin becoming Darth Vader is? He is a baddie! That's all we need to know. Who cares about the poltics? It's black and white! Good vs Evil.

Lucas, stop over-analysing.

I guess this is where the world divides. the people who just wanted to live with their own interpretation of "what happened before", using their own imagination, and of course anything on screen will never be on par with one's imagination, therefore leaving them sorely diapoointed. And the people who like analysing, who want to be shown what happened before. Needless to say, even most of those guys were disappointed, but that's just because those prequels were just crap.

Oh no. By far the biggest killers are girlfriends.

You haven't experienced the John Reynolds curse. Go to a movie with me and there WILL be people directly behind us who talk throughout the entire movie. Just happened again during Troy. My friend brought his new wife and as we were walking out I asked her if she enjoyed the JR curse.

 Lately i have the "fat man laughing out loud 4 rows ahead of me, 5 seats on the left" curse...

I want my copies of the original movies on DVD...not the special special editions! :devilish: That will never happen though. Hell I wouldn't even care if Lucas released the original movies without any extras on DVD, the special edition without any extras on DVD, and then the latest version with extras on DVD. Chances are I would buy at least 2 of the 3 and would be happy cause I had the original cut.

Seriously though there is no way that Episode 3 can be saved. Episode 1 was a complete disaster. Episode 2 was better but still sucked...its only redeeming factor was the kickass Yoda fight. I am not expecting much from Episode 3. Lucas needs to die so that his trust can release the orignal versions on DVD and someone else can take over Episode 3. That would never happen though...that bastard probably has something in his will forbidding it.

Gosh..... i mean, yeah they were bad.... but not THAT bad..........

IMO:

Episode 1 : Really Bad.
Episode 2 : Fair (not bad, not good either)

So if Episode 3 is as much improvement over Episode 2 than Episode 2 is over Episode 1, it should be really good.

The only problem is that, no matter how good Ep3 will be, we'll stick with the very bad Episode I
