California recall: Courts running Amok again...

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/state/2003-09-15-calif-recall_x.htm

I hope the U.S. Supreme Court weighs in on this...though after their failure to address the N.J. Supreme Court's blatant disregard for election law (Sen. Toricelli fiasco), I have my doubts that they'll weigh in on this one.

I find this quote interesting:

Bill Clinton said:
"It's you I'm worried about. It's California I worry about. I don't want you to become a laughing stock, or a carnival,....

Too late.

...or the beginning of a circus in America where we throw people out for making tough decisions."

See Democratic Leaders and Presidential Hopefuls for the prime example of this.

LOL if the judiciary does indeed run elections from now on (or rather from the last presidentials), it might be a better thing than the idea that parties in power in a given state apparently run elections like the republicans ran the 2000 one in Florida.

Tho really it would be much better if some kind of bi partisan with a mutually agreed upon neutral party to weign in on decisions were setup for that instead.

Maybe arny gets to make conan 3 and terminator 4 now  and those long rumored flicks on the crusades and the nazis (plays a nazi who becomes a good guy ...)

Meh. That whole recall is a farce. I'm just glad we don't have that in place in the rest of the country. Californians have severely screwed themselves over with all the propositions and by-laws that have been created via citizen referendums that basically tie the hands of any politician elected to office.

Democracy run amok I'd say.

You mean, the election where the counties controlled by democrats were the overwhelmiong majority of ones with all the "questionable" results?

Yes, Californians have screwed themselves.

That's no reason to disreard the law, though. That's why you change the law.

Ugh. I hope Davis is recalled now. I just read that he signed a bill into law a few days ago allowing illegal aliens to get drivers licenses so that he could curry favor with interest groups. Jesus christ has he not learned from the Virginia debacle which allowed the terrorists to get drivers licenses and thus get into flight schools, open bank accounts, and get social security numbers???

ARRGGHH!!

Almost makes one want to go Republican..... Almost.....

Oh Im not a fan fo davis or democrats either. Im a green if anything. But Im a bit worried about the political process might devolve into Italian style chaos with any gov being recalled by his political oppponents... Unless people thnk its good to have elections every 2 years... I dont think its good for biz or the economy and certainly not good for our canuckian exports...
