Interesting.....

Saddam Hussein bought PlayStation 2 consoles to use in Iraq's weapons program.

Back in 2000, United Nations (news - web sites) sanctions prohibited Hussein from obtaining computer hardware. According to reports from WorldNetDaily.com, he bought upwards of 4000 Sony PlayStation 2 consoles, intending to cobble together a crude supercomputer for calculating ballistic missile data, designing nuclear weapons, and controlling aerial drones.

This tale has all the hallmarks of an urban legend, including supposed leaked U.S. government documents, unnamed military sources, and a real kicker: Theoretically, Hussein snapped up so many gaming boxes that his spree created a PlayStation 2 shortage.

The only reason we give this fable any credence is the care with which the representative from the Defense Intelligence Agency chose his words when we called. "Yes, various agencies looked into it," he admitted, but he refused to divulge any findings. "If there were potential military applications for any technology, they would be of interest to us." Notice the "if."

And they didn't at least find the PS2's while searching for the WMD's :D
Or they were well disquised as.. PS2 consoles, so they didn't think they were dangerous. If only they'd knew they were all running Linux and connected on a Grid like network.
Good thing they were all stolen in the pillages, and now the 4000+ modded PS2 are all around the Iraq and allied countries.
Let's just hope they won't be all equipped with Network Adapters again....

I saw that rumour several years ago, but then he was going to use them as "eyes" in missiles on account of their alleged fantastic image processing capabilities. Conveniently, the rumour seemed to appear at the same time as Sony tried to convince the world of the PS2's fantastic image processing capabilities...

Yes, but I did not think they were as fun as the Saddam PS2 one!
Though it was good to get clarification on the battery issue.
(Now when I tell someone that they don't need to completely discharge their battery and they ask how I know that, I can answer that "I read it on the Internet"... :D )
