Assetto Corsa Competizione [PC, XO, XBSX|S, PS4, PS5]

Looks and sounds fabulous.
It is a good contender to Gran Turismo.
The lighting isnt fully there but everything else is great.
The sound specifically is much better here

It is a tiny game compared to GT7 but the driving in this game is generally really great, as long as you don’t use a controller. I also agree about the sound.

If you do use a controller, I don’t know if this supports motion control steering, but otherwise I don’t know I would play this game with a controller. By all accounts that is a horrible experience.

Will have to check that.

Amusingly, I found a video showing how impossible ACC is to drive with a controller on PC, and how to configure using motion control steering with a DS4. But I haven’t seen anything about motion controls support on Playstation yet.

Funny story - at all the Ferrari races (Corse Clienti) I go to, they usually have a simulator there available to anyone who wants to try it out.

It's a beefy PC in a cool driving seat and set up, pretty cool.

And the 'simulator' they use is Assetto Corsa! They even have a trainer there to help you out playing the game and I always found that so funny. It's a game, people!

Oh there is probably more than meets the eye

Yeah Assetto Corsa is one of the best simulations of that type of car.

Hmmm, the next-gen 1.7.8.2 update looks shaky on XSS/X. It’s hard to tell but it looks like they dropped res for some type of TAA? Some parts of the car look crisper, but some distant scenery (lines, fences, foliage) looks lower res. Frame rate isn’t a consistent 60, either. Weird.

Edit: Jardier’s quick look at the PS5 version (1.7.7.5) shows numerous bugs (watch his gameplay impressions starting at ~6mins, but there’s bugged BMW headlights, major online race issues, and sound channel issues) and claims input lag with his Fanatec DD Pro wheel (he didn’t mention it with the controller, so this could be a wheel rotation setting [his was at 480°]) even though he thinks he’s seeing 60fps (might be in the 50s, like the XSX). Rearview mirror was super pixelly. WTF, 505 and/or whoever’s porting this? I appreciate that it’s a free update for previous gen owners (given Control), but why release with so many obvious bugs? Put your best foot forward, especially when there are substantial DLC to entice new and returning players with.

I can attest to that. I purchased the game a few years ago and it's almost impossible to drive with a controller. I usually play the original Assetto Corsa more though, it's engine is so well known and has dozens of great mods.

Playing (serious) racing games with a controller..... Not sure nowadays but during GT2/3 and 4 it was the best with wheel-setup.

GT has always had great controller support. You could even ply it very well with the d-pad thanks to smart assists. And it also supported the analog button modes that PlayStation controllers have had.

But these days with the motion controls I can get golds in license tests etc about as easy with motion controls as with a wheel.

So yeah, Assetto really should support that on PlayStation if it doesn’t yet. If not it is basically off the table for me. I have a wheel and seat, but I just don’t always want to use it.

How about Need for Speed Rivals - some idiot thought lets make a racing game that doesnt support steering wheels

this game has best physics for gt3 cars and also sound is superb, unfortunetly console version created by separated studio is not on pc level

Looks like vegetation LODs are notably bugged too, worse anisotropic filtering and draw distance, less grass and vegetation/bushes. Weird.
