Anyone know a fix for this?

My repaired unit came back with a balky disk drive (and a load of dust bunnies). The fact the disk drive won't open unless a disk is IN the drive is driving me nuts.

So I dusted the entire thing out (waited until after warranty expired... I am shocked it was sent in such bad condition) and then drive got worse as it was not reading disks so I gently cleaned the lens with a qtip and all works fine EXCEPT the drive still won't open UNLESS there is a disk in.

Any recommendations?

That's a weird one, isn't just a dip switch at the back of the drive to tell the machine when it's open or closed?

Did you clean that rubber band thingy? When my drive used to not open a lot of people recommended I do that and it started to work after I did it.

yeah Ive seen that on a mac
the solution is to trip the switch hole in the front, with a needle and as soon as it saiz ok, jam a knife in there befoer it shuts.
if that doesnt work - just stcik the needle(etc) in and open the tray with a knife, it will work just gotta apply the right pressure.
Im a master at this now. Ive done it over 100x

Thanks, will try when I get a free moment. Thankfully there is a disk in now so it opens/closes with no issues. The problem is when swapping and it closes itself quickly.
