The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster (UE5) [XBSX|S, PC, PS5, XGP]

How would you really address this without a much more complex and robust physics and materials engine?

A more rigid idle animation for that screen might be better for the scenario and preferences outlined but at the same time it might not be for other scenarios and preferences.

It's not really a matter of physics and materials, it's just the problem of having a unified set of animations regardless of what's being worn. A full suit of plate armor restricts your range of motion in certain ways, and the animations are created as a one-size-fits-all. If you have the armor rigid and attached to a particular spot on the rig then you'd run into the body clipping through it in various places. The proper solution would be to have different animations depending on the clothing. That's why I say the simplest fix would be to just focus on making the inventory screen more presentable, as that's really where this artifact is most noticeable since the character is standing and performing the same looping animation, fully lit, and in the middle of your screen. Most other cases in the game characters are moving around and performing actions so you don't see the vertices and textures swimming about as the character breathes.

Well yes obviously you can create specific iterations for all cases but that then limits the how you can iterate, modify, and create content in terms of the character and armor models. The reason I bring this up especially is I am always cognizant of the modding aspect of TES games.

A full on complex physics and simulation engine would be be able to catch all that without requiring all those prebaked solutions is what I was referring to.

As for the presentation what I'm saying is you have to keep in mind that looking at a character in typical plate armor is not the only consideration in terms of visual presentation. Does having a breathing animation have a preferable presentation in other cases?

Played few hours on XSX so far in performance mode. No major issues, framerate seems good perhaps some minor drops but it seems very fluid on vrr display anyway. Graphics and sound are very nice. Game feels great I am little bit sad that this was leaked. It would be huge surprise if they managed to keep this is secret.

I tried this on Steam. Had a werid problem where it recompiles shaders every time and the settings not saved, even save files are not saved (fortunately I was only in the tutorial area). Later I found out that it's got blocked by Windows security for accessing the "Documents" folder. I manually unblocked it and it works now. Not sure what's the problem got it blocked in the first place though (probably botched executable signature?) Other than this issue I didn't encounter any crashs but I only just played a few hours.

I only use the in game FPS meter so maybe it's not very accurate, but it's indeed run lower than 60 FPS sometimes (with everything set to ultra, which is its default setting on my PC), and that's with my 7950X3D and 4090 (I didn't check if it's correctly seen as a game though, maybe it's actually running on the non V-cache cores). Frame gen works for me as the FPS went to over 100 after enabling it. Turning off raytracing does not really improve frame rates much. Could be CPU limited in some way.

I also have to disable SSR because it looks very weird. Basically like what @Bludd posted.

another hilarious video, the conversation between the count and the countess at the 1:40 mark..., who are a married couple btw, it's..... so Oblivion.

my frame rate tanked here yesterday looking at this bunch of skeleton bones specifically but now its full gas after a reload

Let’s go !! Installing on XSX and pc. GP
wish I had access to pc gp. I have pc GP until 21st next month but I can't use it. Whether you are into GP or not, if you are it's great, if you aren't it's an excellent service to try games and see if you like them so you buy them on Steam

so you buy them on Steam

Other than windows store sometimes fucked up the game install / download function, requiring full windows reinstall...

Oblivion is XPA title. So, isnt it's better to buy on windows store?

as the Xbox version is also bundled together at no additional cost.

As magoo got both pc and XS.

But yeah, gamepass is great for trying things. I redeemed gamepass trial card from Xbox controller on an unused ms account just to try oblivion remaster.

Now if only I can get dlss fg works with proper frame pacing and without tearing...

The DLSS-FG without tearing is a bit of a PITA, to be sure. You're forced to disable VSYNC in game to enable FG, but IIRC you can re-enable it within the NVIDIA control panel to ensure it paces correctly with screen refresh and also doesn't tear. I really wish it wasn't such a kludgy affair.

As for buying it with Steam vs Windows store vs XBOX game pass, I guess it depends on whether you have an XBOX? Personally I don't play enough games to get my money's worth out of Gamepass; I simply don't have that kind of time. If/when I buy it (and I'm leaning hard on when) I'll certainly buy it on Steam.

I'm waiting to hear more "complaints" before I buy it, so far all I've seen is hilarity which I would've attributed to the typical Bethesda game "charm" of wonkiness we've all come to expect from their Creation engine. You know, wonky dialogue, sometimes strange animations and physics, bizarre character creation attributes, and game-breaking closed-loop items. At this point, most of that is just part of the game and I'd be at least a tiny bit disappointed if it were all fixed.

Btw for the intro mission, I dropped all of my armor, etc as I keep getting overweight. I'm literally just with underwear.

Every was going fine.

Then I reached the point where robed assassins keeps coming in waves and... I'm so flimsy lol.
