Trademark hounds have discovered that Silicon Xtal Corporation, an integrated circuit manufacturer located in San Jose, California, has registered the name SexBox with the U.S. Patent Office. If the name doesn't indicate it's purpose, here's the patent description to provide a clearer picture: a video gaming console comprised of computer hardware with unique controls which plays Adult Only rated (AO) video game software titles. That's right, a game console that plays adult-oriented games and media.

How do they make it play only Adult Rated software? How do they determine if the software is child friendly and prevent it from running? What if a game includes a 'Hot Coffee' type mod, more like 'Cold Milkshake' that sneaks a bit of flower growing fun in? would that get banned?
 
The obvious "adults only" link is with the "controllers"

Maybe it's nothing more than a sex aid with graphics on the screen.

Hope it comes with a self cleaning mechanism.

The Playboy and a milking machine story has been a hunting campfire staple in the midwest for years, I suppose the Wisconsin farmboys will all be adding a "damm I shoulda patented that" to the end of their stories now. :LOL:
 
any machine can play AO material(*), actually Im surprised there hasnt been more AO stuff written.

OK this is par of the course for the US, but not for europe but even their I dont think theres AO stuff

I think the reason there are no AO console games is because the console manufacturers do not grant a liscence for AO games. If they did im sure we'd see plenty!
 
The no AO thing is to be more attractive to families I would imagine. Although the whole graphically explicit exploding bodies completely with blood and guts kinda ruins that a bit.

And it doesn't appear to be based on US morality at all.

Even in Japan. You didn't see many games for the popular consoles featuring extensive nudity and focusing on the sex aspects of a game. Despite the fact, that the Japanese are far more accepting of what many would consider deviant sexual behavior than any other country in the world except perhaps Germany.

And that's for the Japanese only games that weren't exported. On the PC side, of course, it's a whole different story over there. But consoles in general in Japan have avoided it. And I think it's mostly to do with making it more palatable to parents with children. Interesting to note that graphically explicit violence (in console games) is also more of a western thing.

And then the american lawyer that sued GTA would go beserk and say "how can they patch this nice porn with an flower mod, er, I mean".

BTW, will there be an MMO where you can upgrade your char? Think of the new spam possibilities (Our pills enlarge in real life *and* your character in World of filloutsomeambiguousword)!

Seriously, I think even the "sex sells" phrase implies certain limits and that you cannot sell every junk with just printing sex on it.
 
I don't think anyone has ever not granted a license to an AO game - I think it's fear of Walmart refusing to carry it that keeps them from getitng published
