    3DFX is back???

https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=98048 There have also been some custom PCB-based Voodoo2 SLI bridges. https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=1129889#p1129889 Lots of cool projects over there, including recreations of sound cards.

    Sony PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)

New people should probably be introduced to VR with games that use teleport, snap turn and vignette. It's very important they don't get sick in the first few mins.

I just mean that you can see with FFR how if the periphery's detail is reduced too much it becomes very noticeable. It was something people complained about with RE7 VR on the base PS4 for example.

Maybe this person equates PC with nvidia. That's pretty much the GPU marketshare these days.

I think that playing around with FFR is useful in seeing why DFR can only go so far.

To me the most annoying thing about some Fresnel gear is the haloing / glows off the lens rings. But these problems vary a lot across different HMDs.

It would be interesting to hear about software attach rates on all the platforms.

It seems to be more typically around the realm of a 30 - 50% boost. I guess if you could massively downsample the periphery you could get more though.

    Rift, Vive, and Virtual Reality

Hey maybe I should respond to this. I have two v1.0 Vive base stations on the walls in opposite corners of the room near the ceiling. Tracking accuracy is excellent. There happen to be AC outlets in these corners so the wire just runs down the wall to that outlet. The base stations have two...

I picked up a second hand Pimax 5K XR a few weeks ago. Very interesting gear. The 170 degree horizontal FOV works better than I imagined. There is only the most minimal distortion, at the very edge of the periphery. I get the impression they improved this with updates over the years. Also...

My impression is they are testing Steam Link.

WMR is currently fully functional and will be at least until the end of this year. At that point there is to be a Win11 feature update (Win12?) that might remove it, but it's also said to be supported until 2026 if you don't install that update. You could even run dual OSs if you like.

    Interesting old GPU architecture

Wow that is a lot of FPGAs! The '90s had a bunch of programmable media processors. MPACT, Verite, MWave, N64... And how about those USR Courier modems that were software upgradable.

    Rift, Vive, and Virtual Reality

Their other games aren't on the level of something like Metro Exodus so we'll see. It probably depends on the budget they negotiated.
