    NVIDIA discussion [2024]

In engineering and industry it most definitely is not. In academia, yeah sure it is quite niche but as a part-time academic myself, who cares about them. Yes I am sure that's how they think. It only cost them the professional market but yes bigger fish to fry. Not only is it difficult to...

    NVIDIA discussion [2024]

Yep and getting them up and running on anything that isn't Nvidia is either (1) a pain, or (2) not possible. Arc has made good progress but still firmly in the painful category. We've trained and deployed models using Matlab (engineers already know Matlab) for a few years now and neither...

Intel ARC GPUs, Xe Architecture for dGPUs [2022-]

I still have the Serpent Canton NUC with the 16GB A770M. Have been using it a lot lately with Stable Diffusion where the VRAM comes in handy. Work sharing with the Xe iGPU on the 12700H in Adobe Premiere Pro (Deep Link Hyper Encode) also has always seemed to work. If MathWorks were to add Arc...

    Redfall [XBSX|S, XGP, PC]

Fired it up on the Series X as it hasn't got much use lately. Going back to 30fps is jarring but it is kinda fun to play. Very unpolished though and the animations in particular can be shockingly bad. Worth the download if you get it free through Game Pass.

Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard King for $69 Billion on 2023-10-13

I absolutely hate the idea of MS using hundreds of billions they earned elsewhere to buy up companies in another industry. It irks me that instead of trying to grow organically they have decided to use their size to money hat their way to the top. More importantly though, MS have completely...

Intel ARC GPUs, Xe Architecture for dGPUs [2022-]

Also nice in-depth analysis by chips and cheese. Summary of the article from the AT forums: @Cyan: Yes I thought it was odd that it was mostly OK and then bam! Nothing working.

Intel ARC GPUs, Xe Architecture for dGPUs [2022-]

I was hunting for a NUC for a home file and media server and ended up with this. Pricier than the smaller NUCs but was also keen to try Arc so thought why not, plus can use it to beam games around the house via Steam. It has a 16GB 770M (full G10 die as used in the 770 LE but is TDP restricted)...

    AMD FSR antialiasing discussion

I couldn't finish it either. Terrible analysis as usual. They should stick to data-driven reviews.

    AMD FSR antialiasing discussion

Hold on, why are we all of a sudden suggesting FSR uses ML? There is quite literally zero evidence or mention of ML, outside of a 2 year old patent (which means almost nothing).

Nvidia DLSS 1 and 2 antialiasing discussion *spawn*

A selection of gaming press articles that say differently doesn't prove your point. Other press, and posters on technical forums, were not impressed. DLSS 1.9 and 2.0 were Nvidia's response to the general shared disappoint in 1.0. Good grief  Our recollections clearly differ greatly.

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

The skepticism (I was one of them) was hardly undeserved. AMD were only doing a little better than treading water for far too long in the GPU space, and there have been far too many situations were AMD products were overhyped only to end up disappointing everyone. They've now earned themselves...

Nvidia's 3000 Series RTX GPU [3090s with different memory capacity]

Geez there is way to much emotion in some of these posts. 3The RTX 3 is only true when no INT execution is happening anywhere on any SM (otherwise FP32 throughput for that SM is halved). Yes, you can say you are just quoting Nvidia's marketing numbers, but if you're actually interested in...

Nvidia's 3000 Series RTX GPU [3090s with different memory capacity]

$50-100 extra seems pretty optimistic for double the GDDR6. In the past, in my location at least, double VRAM cards have commanded ridiculous premiums and I've always felt they were purely there to trick/gouge consumers who don't understand exactly how much they need.

Current Generation Games Analysis Technical Discussion [2020-2021] [XBSX|S, PS5, PC]

Their results are absolutely baffling. In what world is a GTX 1060 even remotely comparable to a PS5?

    Nvidia Ampere Discussion [2020-05-14]

I think you want Nsight graphics, not Night compute.
