Predict: The Next Generation Console Tech

I'd hope too, but Sony tends to be the kind of company where if you don't agree with them, you must be doing something wrong. It was that way with the PS3 price (even now). It was that way with BC. It was that way with no decent internal scaling.

Predict: The Next Generation Console Tech

If it's a temporary cache that the system reserves, it's no big deal. If games just start commandeering space without my knowlege, it is a big deal.

Predict: The Next Generation Console Tech

Did Sony learn a lesson about price yet? The PS3 still sold a decent amount of consoles with the sky high prices. What do you consider to be a fair entry price? Was the 360 well priced at $399 or should you start at a lower point? I'd like to see next generation to not have different SKUs...

Robbie Bach says this generation will last longer

I think the decision to keep this generation going has more to do with economic conditions than necessarily the strength of current consoles. If MS or Sony were to release a brand new console at current market conditions at the price point that the PS3 or 360 began, I believe it would fail...

Alternative distribution to optical disks : SSD, cards, and download*

In the future, the retailers would be out of the loop as broadband speeds increase. But, currently, the majority of Americans don't have the broadband speeds to download a 50GB game. They could work an odd job to get the gas money, drive to the store, d/l to SSD, drive home, make a sandwich, and...

Alternative distribution to optical disks : SSD, cards, and download*

I think it would be a long shot, but it's at least possible. Why couldn't you get a SSD big enough for a bunch of games all at once. A 200GB SSD could fit around 4 double-layer Blu-ray games. Personally, I like owning physical copies too. I worry about what happens if you lose the game as...

Alternative distribution to optical disks : SSD, cards, and download*

They could utilize SSD or some other mass storage memory card to enable customers to take an SSD to the store, purchase a game, download it to disk, and then upload it to the HD of their PS4 / XBOX1080 / Yuu. Of course, there are security implications to consider. But, with a setup like this...

Is Wii bad for the games industry...?

Sure, you exactly know my point, thanks for letting me know. We have different ideas of what casual and hardcore games are. I personally don't classify Wii Fit and Nintendogs in the same category as Mario Galaxy and GTA. Maybe I do. You let me know.

Is Wii bad for the games industry...?

And those developers seemed to abandon the Nintendo ship at the N64 generation. Since the N64, the vast majority of great games have been 1st or 2nd party Nintendo games. That's exactly the point I was making when I listed the casual games.

Is Wii bad for the games industry...?

Still, I wonder how many will be Assassin's Creed type games and how many will be Battle of the Bands type games. I've got nothing against the Wii. It was the first of the "next gen" consoles I owned. It just hasn't done a lot to keep my interest lately, and therefore I've been spending my...

Is Wii bad for the games industry...?

I left those out because I was only talking about casual games. I wasn't talking about games that appeal to hardcore gamers. My point there was that this vast number of casual games don't exist as big sellers on the other platform. Sure, there are some good hardcore games on the Wii; just not...

Is Wii bad for the games industry...?

I don't necessarily think the Wii is teh doomzorz, but it sure doesn't seem to me that the Wii has anywhere close to the ratio of quality:shovelware that the PS1 and PS2 had. IMHO, there seems to be a lot of shovelware crap on the Wii.

Is Wii bad for the games industry...?

If this is true, why aren't they buying the hardcore games? No More Heroes did pretty pitifully. The top selling games for the Wii include, Wii Play, Mario Party, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, Big Brain Academy and Wii Fit. A little further down the list are things like Link's Crossbow...

Xbox 360 Fall 2008 update list (post #23)

Don't some games offer installations currently (FFXI)? That means, it's already possible if the dev chooses to do so. How will the installs work, will older games need patched so they know what to install to HD?
