PlayStation 4 (codename Orbis) technical hardware investigation (news and rumours)

Well you can't rule out possible software update though. If the hardwares shipping today are qualified for, say, 1.8GHz/900MHz. Should the need rises, SONY could add boost modes quite easily (and to be activated by the developers only, of course) without increasing power consumption. For example...

    Qualcomm Krait & MSM8960 @ AnandTech

No. In all recent Qcom products, only x6xx and x9xx parts support CDMA (e.g. 8660 8960 8974 9600 9615). So MDM9215 will not support CDMA.

AMD: Sea Islands R1100 (8*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

that's not true. both amd and nvidia did improve on 40nm for at least 3~5% in density. things like reduced vias, denser layouts etc could still amount to a few percentiles. adding in the possibly reduced redundencies with 8xxx designs. we could be looking at up to 20% more raw horsepower with...

    NVIDIA Kepler speculation thread

prepare all you want, doesn't change the fact that you lost a full week and more -- considering the lack of efficiency during holiday seasons.

supply must be low, simply because every single factory in greater china is practically non-functional for almost 2 weeks.

AMD: Sea Islands R1100 (8*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

Intel is totally out of the picture so it's a non-issue. The only other choice is customized PPC as it is now. So it's either IBM or AMD. I'd personally root for PPC, but EnhancedBD wouldn't be such a bad choice either given it's proly much cheaper than anything IBM can offer. 5GHz isn't that...

AMD: Sea Islands R1100 (8*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

but if you get a native 2m/4c (enhanced) bulldozer running at over 5ghz, it's still quite good and most importantly dirt cheap. bulldozer is not horrible, it's just not good enough.

AMD: Southern Islands (7*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

yes, so is the case with 40lpg, when i or just about every one say *standard*, i mean when it's actually running at a reasonable clock rate, not just sitting there and looking pretty.

AMD: Southern Islands (7*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

nonono, it's the other way around. hpl/lp uses higher voltage. the standard voltage for 28nm should be around 0.85v, while hpl is 1.0v, lp is 1.05v. so it's most likely hpl. considering amd uses lpg@40nm, and hpl is romored to have been more mature.

It is if you discount the SIMD count. And changed SIMD count is in no way comparable to the changes needed for a die shrink. I said 4770-style because it might have 20 SIMD and it's "direct" because there was no other material change whatsoever.

AMD: Southern Islands (7*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

GloFo have zero experience on GPU parts, and there's no proof that they can get the density of what TSMC is getting. So no, it's not really a big question. GloFo will be contracted with mid-low end parts or direct die shrink of current parts (a la 4770), probably both. If they really need the...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

Given the FUD level we are seeing now, there's absolutely no chance they'd leak that out. Frequncy, VLIW length, TMU, ROP, TS/Polygon,... they all can be analysed pretty accurately, well maybe not the SIMD count, but that's it. As long as there are samples out there, you can't stop the leak...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

Well, sideport would be specifically for a dual-GPU board, aka HD 6990. Are you seriously expecting slides about just that? AMD can keep their mouth shut for a while even after 6950/6970 launch and nobody would know the difference.

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

Not as many as you think. CSAA is a mixture of AA q0,q2&q4, the AA factor denotes coverage sample not the underlying MSAA mode, eg. 16xCSAA = 4xMSAA(q4) EQAA is simply MSAA set to q=2. All in all, AMD traded 16xCSAA for 2xEQAA which I think is marginally better, since 16xCSAA is literally no...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

Well, I'd say since a. GT2xx and Evergreen are both the ultimate evolution of dated G80/R600 architecture. b. AMD seems to be lagging on "generation" e.g. their K10h is almost 2gens behind (ix, ix2). 5870 should really be compared to GTX285.
