AMD: Volcanic Islands R1100/1200 (8***/9*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

Maybe this has been posted already..but pconline apparently has a card and say their official review will be up on Oct 24th. So I guess that's when all the magic happens. :-D...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

"The 6970; its definately NOT another R300! - R300King!" ..by the way. Anyone have a real photo of the chip's insides, maybe an X-ray or something? Like to see if there are any disabled features or anything still floating around..you know, extra stream processors...more TMUs...a SIMD...an...

So does the 6950 have the turbo "switch" too? If so, how would a "switched" 6950 compare to a non-switched 6970? The same? :D

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

So does this prove that the original 6990 slide we was faked? So someone just made up a Power Point slide with what they wanted, took a slightly blurred photo at an angle with IS off to make it look like they were trying to get a sneak shot of some yet unrelease NDA info and then posted it up...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

I did some more comparisons on the 6870 and the 480.. 480 is 21.0% faster than the 6870 at 1920x1200, 4x, 16AF 480 is 46.4% faster than the 6870 at 1920x1200, 8x, 16AF So that 30%~50% advantage the 6970 has may turn out to be true. It would put it right between the 480 and the 580.

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

Yeah, I know, but I was hoping they meant cards that are "currently" on the market. :D So a 6870 +50% would put it just below the 580 I think. Try this site and see the percent difference of many cards. It may not be perfect but it's good for reference. It's not in English, but you...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

http://www.nordichardware.com/news/71-graphics/41679-first-samples-of-radeon-hd-6900-getting-close.html Umm, who's generation? Nvidia's? The 580 maybe? (but I doubt that's what they meant) But wouldn't AMD's current generation graphics CARD be the 5970? Can you imagine 30% to 50%...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

Anyone have any (good)ideas about the 6970 die size? What about the GTX580 die size while we're at it?

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

The actual number of shaders is less than 50% increase. Only if your counting the clusters from 320 to 480, then yes. But the 320 had 5, and the 480 only has 4. So the actual increase in shaders is 20%. And my first statement was.. The article was saying that the hottest rumor was that...

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

From that link.. googled of course. Umm, why would anyone think the 6970 would have the same number of shaders as the 5870? I don't get it. I think it'll probably be 4-D shaders but the total will be more than 1920. How many more, not sure, maybe 2240. :)

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6850/ Oh yeah, sounds like a horrible problem..getting more shaders than you paid for..everyone, beware!!!!:D

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

I watched the vid. When he showed the back of the card you could see the power caps near the vent side of the card. Is this new? Will this be same for Cayman too? Also it looked like it had only 1 6-pin pwr plug but there was a place for 2 on the card.(that what I could see) He was kind...
