    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

Liquid metal? Does the PS5 employ Galinstan alloy tinside the heatpipes? Every now and then somebody tries to market PC heatsinks based on this principle but, somehow, they've never been popular. The silicon die is clearly visible full screen at 5'03" now it should be possible to deduce its area.

AMD: Navi Speculation, Rumours and Discussion [2019-2020]

Wouldn't be too expensive this sort of hybrid approach with both HBM and a wide external bus? AMD has to compete with NVidia also on price. A large eSRAM o eDRAM cache would be more cost effective (especially the latter).

Nvidia's 3000 Series RTX GPU [3090s with different memory capacity]

Notebook variants of the 20xx GPUs are heavily throttled to make them fit for a laptop. And even at the 80W limit of the MaxQ cards, the notebook cooling solutions required already start to be heavy and noisy. The most sensible solution would be a card capable of playing games maxed out at 720p...

Nvidia's 3000 Series RTX GPU [3090s with different memory capacity]

That and power consumption. It looks like notebook users will be stuck with cards like the GF1660.

Nvidia abandons deal to buy ARM *spawn*

ARM being owned by an American company also means that the architecture could be "weaponized" against China, since a lot of cheap mobile/embedded/IoT processors are made there, by Chinese companies and using ARM licensed cores. What happened to Huaweii could happen again to any other company...

Nvidia abandons deal to buy ARM *spawn*

I asked because it's my understanding that Apple and Samsung don't license the whole synthesizable core from ARM (as other minor players do) but they develop in house processors that happens to be binary compatible with ARM instruction set. If they changed the front end of the instruction...

Nvidia abandons deal to buy ARM *spawn*

Two naive questions: -What would happen to those actors that have heavily invested into ARM architecture (i.e. Apple and Samsung which both developed in house architectures with ARM compatible instruction sets)? -If somebody at Apple or Samsung doesn't like the new licensing terms offered by...

AMD: Navi Speculation, Rumours and Discussion [2019-2020]

150W was also my assumption. This, together with the 256bit bus, makes me think we're looking at an engineering sample of the 'midrange' NAVI

AMD: Navi Speculation, Rumours and Discussion [2019-2020]

That looks like a monster, but standard, CPU cooler. Does anybody know how much heat it is supposed to dissipate? That would give us indirectly a rough measure of what is the expected power consumption of the chip.

Texture cache of the N64 vs. that of Playstation

The N64 architecture was brilliant in many ways and custom tailored to manipulate 3D graphics. Even if the rendering engine of the N64 was severely hindered by having to do texturing from a small (4KB) on chip cache and its CPU was a low cost processor used also laser printers, the design of the...

    Nvidia Pascal Reviews [1080XP, 1080ti, 1080, 1070ti, 1070, 1060, 1050, and 1030]

I've recently acquired an Asus ROG laptop with a 1050Ti in it. I'm really amazed by the performance of this little chip. I don't know what are the supposed nVidia recommended base/turbo clocks of the 1050; in case of this laptop, MSI afterbuner reports 1785MHz core frequency with the temp...

The fabled ALi Aladdin 7 IGPU

Interesting find! Some info can be inferred from the description: -Up to 2.1GB bandiwdth : it could use dual channel 133MB SDRAm -New parallel rendering architecture : dual pipelines(?). The 'dolphin' GPU had 4 pipeline but also integrated 2MB of framebuffer -T&L confirmed Now I really want...

The fabled ALi Aladdin 7 IGPU

PCchips M587LMR, M583LMR These were released Acorp 5ALI61 http://www.mainboard.cz/mb/acorp/5ali61p.htm Interestingly, there is no external cache. For a K6-III, external cache provided only a minor boost, but K6-II and K6-IIp would have taken a big hit. The Flipper GPU had eDram for framebuffer...

The fabled ALi Aladdin 7 IGPU

Garret: SiS chips were certainly underrated. Driver support was also good. I've a SiS 6326 (the last version, 75MHz core 90 SGRAM) and it is able to run Unreal and Quake III, albeit at sub 640x480 resolutions! Back on topic, browsing through the ancient archived news, it seems that the Aladdin...
