They are leaving a conspicuous gap between the 80cu and 40cu dies.

It could, but it would eat into the power budget they need to achieve higher clocks (and incur extra miscellaneous costs such as PCB redesigns). TSMC has touted the 18% density improvement of N6 over N7 using the same design rules, but has remained silent on the degree of power improvement.

And hopefully chuck another 64MB of L3 on the side of the chip, otherwise the problem at 4K will be exacerbated.

    The AMD Execution Thread [2020]

Presumably you are talking about the US? Both models have had ready availability for a while now in New Zealand. Without knowing the situation in Asia, where these budget CPUs would have particular appeal, it's hard to reach a conclusion.

AMD: Navi Speculation, Rumours and Discussion [2019-2020]

There have been reports that Huawei bought a ton of short term TSMC capacity, and availability should thus be better going forward for AMD if that is behind the shortages.

It's the trend, and you're probably right, but its not strictly necessary. The Radeon Pro Vega II Duo for Apple moved the chip further up the PCB (admittedly it was a pretty packed PCB). https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/announcing-the-new-amd-radeon-pro-vega-ii-duo.html

    Nvidia Ampere Discussion [2020-05-14]

Any idea on how this differs from the error detection and replay present since the HD 5000 series? https://www.anandtech.com/show/2841/12

    Nvidia Ampere Discussion [2020-05-14]

Memory bandwidth has only improved by 24% though. And the RTX 3080 is more cut down than the RTX 2080 ti. 2 memory channels vs 1. 20% of SMs vs 5%. RTX 3090 vs Titan RTX is probably a better comparison.

AMD: Navi Speculation, Rumours and Discussion [2019-2020]

16Gbps G6 (as used on the RTX 2080 Super but downclocked slightly to 15.5 to avoid PCB changes) compared to 19Gbps G6X is only a 16% disadvantage, not exactly huge. 16Gbps on a 384bit bus would allow them to reach the RTX 3080's bandwidth level. The bandwidth per watt gain for G6X may be more...

AMD: Navi Speculation, Rumours and Discussion [2019-2020]

The specifications for the MacBook GPU new match what is known about Navi12 (CU count, memory controller count) from benchmark/diagnostic leaks. Navi12 is definitely a separate chip because it has a slightly different compiler target supporting more instructions than Navi10...

VIA / Centaur makes a comeback with all new x86-cores and integrated AI accelerator

The Zen (Summit Ridge) die has 32 PCI-E lanes, but the AM4 socket only connects 24 lanes on the desktop. It is one of a few aspects that are overbuilt for the desktop, inflating die size, but allowed them to use the same die across desktop, workstation, embedded and server products.

By refresh they presumably just mean higher clocks from the same chips with a new product name. Because taping out a new die is expensive, and supply on 7nm+ might be quite restrictive. It is what AMD have done most generations since GCN1. 7800->R9 270->R7 370, RX 480->RX 580->RX 590, etc.

    Broadcom SoCs

https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/raspberry-pi-4-specs-benchmarks/ 7.6 watts at load according to the above benchmarks. The only 3D benchmark shows a 52% fps gain so that is probably right.

AMD: Navi Speculation, Rumours and Discussion [2017-2018]

If true this would make the RX590 launch seem a waste of time. Who is going to want them after this? Unless it was just needed to fulfill obligations to Global Foundries.
