LGA775 mATX boards with OC potential...?

G965 has overclocking problems/limitations. But G35 is supposed to overclock very well, if you can wait a little longer.

    1950pro Xfire 16x/4x thoughts?

Well, in the end I couldn't resist. Two matched cards (consecutive serial #s), packed five days ago. :)

    1950pro Xfire 16x/4x thoughts?

Yeah, I have Stalker sitting beside me on my desk but I haven't installed it yet. FS X is the other game I have that brings the X800XL to its knees.

    1950pro Xfire 16x/4x thoughts?

P5WD2-P, 945D in the 4.5ghz range, 2GB @425mhz.... Primary display is an LCD @1680x1050 Right now I'm using an X800XL, which has been a good card but is starting to show its age. Wasn't so bad until I bought the LCD, because I could always drop the resolution a little on the CRT without...

Does this show with your SATA drives?

Not at the voltage that memory works at... Back to the original question: That is chipset dependant. I'm guessing you have an nV chipset. Or you're running it off a Marvell or SiI or equivalent controller.

    [H] Core 2 Gaming Benchmarks

As soon as AMD brings out 4x4, intel will push out Kentsfield (if not before). The guys over at Xtremesys already have Kentsfield chips running (two conroe cores on one package, a la Smithfield): http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=103982. Many people are claiming that the...

    Cooking knife!

I've been buying my significant other one or two Lee Valley / Thiers-Issard knives for Xmas every year, and we have a pretty good collection now. They've served us well so far. Lee Valley has a nice five piece set: http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=1&p=45520&cat=2,40733,40738,45507

Dogs in the Workplace - good or bad?

I like dogs, but personally I don't think they belong in the workplace. Certainly not in an office anyways. Fish are good 'tho.

    Asus P5VD1-X...comments?

I try and avoid VIA, but that's just me. The Asus P5P800 is another s775 AGP DDR board, using the i865 chipset. http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=26&model=166&modelmenu=1 I've seen some people around running overclocked 920Ds, so the power circuitry must be pretty good...

Question: SCSI Raid Controller Cards (BUS Dependency?)

A SAS controller will run both Serial Attached SCSI and SATA drives, so you might want to just look for one PCIe 8x SAS controller (~12 port). Then you could just mix and match. Or get an 8 port (cheaper), and get an external 5 bay eSATA enclosure with a built in port mulitplier. 5x 500GB =...

CPU upgrade advice -- Single v.s. Dual core?

Some general thoughts: My problem with AMD chips is not the chips themselves, but the chipsets. IMHO intel continues to set the standards by which all other chipsets are measured. AMD had as much trouble moving to 90nm as intel. A lot of the power/heat points that people brought up...

Question: SCSI Raid Controller Cards (BUS Dependency?)

With 10x 15k drives you'll want either PCI-X, or PCIe. PCIe is newer (and faster), but it depends on the rest of the server specs as well. Also, SCSI is being slowly phased out in favour of SAS (Serial Attached SCSI). You might want to look into SAS controllers and drives as well.

What's best MP3/AAC encoder for low bitrate stuff?

I use CDex and Lame. Works well. Simple. Fast. Can run multiple instances if you have multiple drives and multiple CPUs.
