I don't know. But shouldn't dedicated hardware for a specific task always trump a Jack of all trades-chip? GPU:s should be be about graphics no? If you want a piece of the AI-market, maybe better develop specifik hardware for that.

I don't think Apple's choice to make their own cpu's will have a big impact on the pc-industry. But what I do believe, is that smart phones will replace most laptops. IOS-OSX-integration will make your Iphone usable in the work environment. Just connect the phone to your office monitor + a keyboard.

This, I believe are the main reasons. But we will probably never know.

My guess it's bandwidth starved. It would be interesting to see benchmarks with 10% overclock on the HBM:s and compare.

If I remember correctly, 2900Xt was neck to neck with Nvidias competitor as long as you didn't use Msaa.

I hope this "dis-integration" approach will takeoff. I Imagine a cpu module + a couple of gpu modules with 32 GB of stacked memory shared on a single interposer with a fat Thread Ripper cooler on top. No Ram needed, no discrete gpu needed. Speaking of which. What happened to HSA?

I predict the water cooled version of Vega will need to be no more than 599$ The air cooled at 499$ And the cut down version at 399$

Someone please explain why GCN and apparently NCU is limited to a maximum of 4 shader engines? What's the pro and cons with such an limited architecture?

Or maybe, Vega:s is first and foremost built to compete with GP100, not necessarily GP102/GP104. In other words, built for AI and datacenter and render farm workloads. That's where the big money is anyway. Vega then need to fight GP100, GP102 and GP104 with one chip. That's a tall order.
